Abstract

Global warming causes various negative impacts such as decreased productivity, rising sea levels, and losses in the agricultural sector which ultimately have a negative impact on GDP. Many economic sectors rely on fossil fuels, increasing carbon dioxide emissions, which worsen global warming. In OECD countries, although the economy continues to grow, there are efforts to reduce emissions through energy efficiency and changes in economic structure. Renewable energy has emerged as an important solution to reduce carbon emissions and environmental damage, with renewable energy consumption proving to be more effective in driving economic growth than fossil fuels. This study aims to examine the impact of renewable energy investment on carbon emissions in OECD countries, with the main variables including renewable energy, GDP, electricity generation, and CO₂ emissions. This study uses a panel regression method consisting of 18 OECD countries for the period 2013-2021 with a Random Effect Model. The results of the study show that Renewable Energy Investment, GDP and Power Generation have an effect on CO2 Emissions in OECD countries. The implication is to create policies on CO2 emission reduction targets in OECD countries while maintaining economic growth and energy security.

Abstract

This study investigates how sukuk and foreign direct investment (FDI) can be integrated as complementary legal-financial tools to finance renewable energy in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Pakistan. Using a comparative qualitative legal method, it applies maqāṣid al-sharīʿah, institutional economics, and legal pluralism to evaluate alignment between current regulations and Islamic ethical values such as environmental protection (ḥifẓ al-bīʿah), wealth preservation (ḥifẓ al-māl), and justice (ʿadl). Findings indicate that fragmented regulations and weak Shariah governance constrain Islamic green finance. Malaysia shows stronger regulatory integration, while Indonesia and Pakistan face gaps between Islamic law and environmental policy. The study proposes an Islamic Green Governance Model that fuses ESG and Shariah standards to promote legal certainty, ethical investment, and justice-based decarbonization. Islamic finance is reframed not just as a funding mechanism, but as a vehicle for ethical sustainability aligned with Shariah objectives.

Abstract

Green Sukuk-Based Project on Sustainable Waste Management in Indonesia. Most of the problems that occur in waste management are related to financing. This study proposes Green Sukuk to be used by the government as a diversification of funding for municipal waste management. This paper argues that Green Sukuk can potentially be an Islamic finance instrument for financing municipal substantial waste management project carried out by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. Further, there will be costs and benefits obtained by the government as the implications of this financing. Hence, this paper attempts to find the best alternative of Sukuk strategy to be implemented in the financing of municipal waste management using Analytic Network Process (ANP) with a network of Benefit, Opportunity, Cost, Risk (BOCR) analysis.
