Abstract

Background: The World Health Assembly has set a global target of 40% reduction in the number of children under five years of age who are stunted. In Bireuen Regency, however, cases have risen sharply, with prevalence increasing from 23.4% in 2022 to 32.9% in 2023. Purpose: To analyze area-based specific and sensitive interventions for stunting prevention in Bireuen Regency. Method: A quantitative cross-sectional study was conducted using secondary data from the Bireuen Regency Health Office, obtained from the Electronic Community-Based Nutrition Recording and Reporting System (E-PPGBM) and the Healthy Indonesia Program with a Family Approach (PIS-PK). The analysis included all 609 villages in Bireuen Regency. Chi-square tests and logistic regression were used to assess the associations between interventions and stunting prevalence. Results: Significant associations were found for iron–folic acid supplementation among adolescent girls (OR=12.2; p=0.001) and pregnant women (OR=0.21; p=0.001), early initiation of breastfeeding (OR=2.02; p=0.008), child growth monitoring (OR=0.47; p=0.002), and complete immunization (OR=2.56; p=0.024). Antenatal care and exclusive breastfeeding were not significantly associated with stunting. Sensitive interventions, including access to clean water (OR=3.24; p=0.001), sanitation (OR=3.02; p=0.001), and social security (OR=0.50; p=0.008), were also significantly associated with stunting prevalence. Conclusion: Integrated, area-based implementation of both specific and sensitive interventions is essential for sustainable stunting reduction in Bireuen Regency.
