Abstract

Kalang buffalo are a livestock commodity unique to the swamp lands of Hulu Sungai Selatan Regency, playing an important role in supporting the community's economy and food security. However, one of the main constraints in the Kalang buffalo production system is the limited quality of swamp water used for livestock drinking and sanitation. Swamp water generally has high levels of turbidity, organic matter, and potential microbiological contamination, which can negatively affect livestock health and productivity. This activity aimed to implement swamp water filtration technology to provide clean water to support kalang buffalo production in Teluk Haur Village, Hulu Sungai Selatan Regency. The methods used included the design and installation of simple filtration devices, technical training for farmers, and assistance in the management and maintenance of the filtration system. The results of the implementation show that filtration technology can reduce turbidity and odor levels in swamp water and increase livestock acceptance of drinking water. In addition, farmers have demonstrated increased knowledge and skills in water quality management. The application of swamp water filtration technology has the potential to be a sustainable solution to improve livestock health and water buffalo production efficiency in swamp areas.
