Abstract

This study, entitled “Analysis of the Determinants of Income Inequality Between Provinces in Sumatra Island (A Comparative Study of Riau Islands Province and Bangka Belitung Islands Province)”, aims to analyze and compare the factors influencing income inequality among regencies/cities in Riau Islands Province and Bangka Belitung Islands Province during the 2019–2024 period. The variables used include economic growth, average years of schooling, open unemployment rate (OUR), and road infrastructure, with the Gini ratio as the indicator of income inequality. This study employs a quantitative method using panel data regression analysis. The results show that in Riau Islands Province, the economic growth variable has a negative and significant effect on income inequality, while education and unemployment have positive and significant effects. On the other hand, in Bangka Belitung Islands Province, road infrastructure and economic growth negatively affect income inequality, although with different levels of significance. This comparison indicates that economic growth and infrastructure equity are more effective in reducing income inequality in Bangka Belitung than in Riau Islands Province.

Abstract

The complexity of protected forest management policy in Jantho Subdistrict, Aceh Besar, reveals a significant discrepancy between the de jure designation of the area by the government and the de facto land use by the community, which has been going on for generations. The main pressure on the Jantho Protected Forest has shifted from illegal logging to permanent illegal land occupation and land speculation practices along the Jantho–Lamno development project route. Although conservation efforts in the core conservation area (Jantho Nature Park, Jantho Pine Forest Reserve) showed an increase in management effectiveness based on the 2019 METT evaluation, external pressures in the buffer zone remain high. To resolve tenure conflicts and ensure sustainable conservation, management policy must adopt a multi- stakeholder approach. Strategic vertical collaboration is needed between the Aceh Besar District Government, the Aceh Provincial Government, and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. These efforts must be supported by the preparation of a comprehensive integrated Academic Paper, in accordance with the DPRC's recommendations. The long-term solution lies in the implementation of the Social Forestry model, particularly Community Forests (CF) or Customary Forests, as a mechanism to legitimise community management rights while maintaining the essential conservation functions of forests. Taking advantage of the momentum of the discussion of the 2025-2029 MTDP Draft Qanun provides political legitimacy for the Aceh Besar Regency Government to fight for a road map for revising the status of this area.

Abstract

The Krueng Raya River plays a strategic role in supporting the livelihoods of surrounding communities, both as an environmental resource and as a foundation for local economic activities. However, the river’s use remains limited and not managed optimally, resulting in underdeveloped economic potential and minimal impact on community welfare. At the same time, increasing pressure on the river ecosystem from human activities and land-use changes could reduce ecological functions and heighten environmental vulnerability. This community service program aims to optimize the potential of the Krueng Raya River to strengthen local economic development while enhancing environmental resilience. The approach involves identifying river-based economic opportunities, providing community education and assistance, and promoting environmentally friendly practices for using river resources. The expected outcomes of this program include improved community capacity for sustainable river management, the development of local economic activities based on river resources, and the preservation of the Krueng Raya River’s ecological functions as part of a long-term effort to strengthen environmental resilience.

Abstract

Indonesia is the ruler of areca nut exports in the world and 40% of Indonesia's total areca nut exports come from Jambi. The research was focus by Jambi’s strategic role in national areca nut production and exports, alongside persistent constraints in the upstream subsystem of agribusiness especially limited capital, production-cost variability, and uneven breeder capacity to consistently meet certification standards. A survey based descriptive quantitative approach was employed. Primary data were collected through structured interviews using questionnaires from three purposively selected certified breeders (from five existing units) who met the criteria of business ownership, a minimum of two years of operation, and active participation in certification. Secondary data were sourced from BPS and relevant provincial agencies. Analysis focused on fixed and variable cost components, total revenue, farm income (TR–TC), and feasibility using the Revenue–Cost (R/C) ratio. Results show that the average total production cost reached Rp 183,266,666/year, comprising seeding costs of Rp 71,889,427 and nursery costs of Rp 111,377,239. Average total revenue was Rp 692,156,067/year, generating an average income of Rp 508,889,401/year (= Rp 42,407,450/month). The mean R/C ratio was 3.5, indicating financial feasibility (R/C > 1). However, substantial income disparities among breeders suggest that scale, managerial capability, and cost control critically determine profitability. Strengthening cost efficiency, optimizing nursery land (including yard-based expansion), and improving compliance support for certification are recommended to enhance sustainability.

Abstract

Partial shading in photovoltaic (PV) modules produces multiple power peaks that reduce system efficiency if the global maximum power point is not properly tracked. This condition commonly occurs in oil and gas production facilities due to shadows from industrial structures, requiring MPPT methods with reliable global tracking capability. This study evaluates the Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO) algorithm for global MPPT under eight partial shading scenarios (12.5%–100%) using MATLAB/Simulink simulation. The results show that GWO successfully tracks the global maximum power point under single-, double-, and triple-peak conditions. Under 12.5% shading, the system produces 277.0 W with an efficiency of 99.78%; under 25% shading, it produces 266.7 W with an efficiency of 99.85%; and under 37.5% shading, it produces 204.2 W with an efficiency of 99.90%. Across all scenarios, the algorithm achieves efficiencies above 99% with an average efficiency of 99.61%, which is higher than the 97.20% reported in previous studies. This efficiency improvement of approximately 2–4% increases the contribution of solar energy in PV–diesel hybrid systems and potentially reduces fuel consumption while improving power supply reliability for critical loads in oil and gas production facilities. Unlike conventional metaheuristic approaches such as PSO-MPPT, Flower Pollination Algorithm (FPA), and Differential Evolution (DE), which are sensitive to parameter tuning or prone to premature convergence, the proposed GWO implementation employs a hierarchical three-agent update mechanism (α, β, δ) that enhances global exploration capability across complex multi-peak P–V characteristics. This distinguishes the present study from prior GWO-based MPPT work that relied solely on the alpha agent for position update.
