Abstract

This study aims to analyze how global curricula and Islamic values are integrated within the educational ecosystem of a modern Islamic boarding school (pesantren), and how this integration process shapes students' character and competencies. The research employed an interpretivist paradigm with a qualitative case study design at a modern pesantren implementing an international curriculum (AIS). Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and institutional document analysis involving 35 purposively selected participants over January–March 2025, and were analyzed thematically using triangulation and member-checking strategies to ensure data trustworthiness. The findings reveal that integration does not occur additively but through the diffusion of a shared value framework across three simultaneous channels: classroom pedagogy, boarding-life routines, and institutional discourse that unifies all institutional actors. The conceptual frameworks of "Nubuwwah Character" and "Madrasah Kehidupan" function as connectors that provide narrative coherence between the academic curriculum and students' religious life. Drawing on habitus theory and social learning theory as analytical lenses, this study proposes a shared value ecosystem model as a conceptual contribution to understanding Islamic educational integration. These findings carry important implications for the management of modern pesantren institutions seeking to adopt global curricula without losing their Islamic value foundation.
