Reading ability is a fundamental skill that plays an important role in supporting elementary school students’ learning processes. However, low student interest in reading activities and the suboptimal utilization of reading materials were identified as problems at SDN 016 Kenantan. This activity aimed to examine changes in students’ reading comprehension through the implementation of the Chain Literacy program as part of the KUKERTA program of Universitas Riau. The activity employed a descriptive quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The participants consisted of 61 third- and fourth-grade students, including 31 third-grade students and 30 fourth-grade students. Data were collected through pretests, posttests, and observations of student participation during the activity. Data were analyzed by comparing the mean pretest and posttest scores and calculating the N-Gain score. The results showed an improvement in students’ reading comprehension. The overall mean score increased from 61.72 in the pretest to 80.46 in the posttest, representing an increase of 18.74 points, with an N-Gain score of 0.490. The third-grade students showed an average increase of 17.94 points, while the fourth-grade students showed an increase of 19.57 points. In addition to the improvement in test scores, the Chain Literacy activity encouraged students to actively listen, take turns reading, and participate in the reading process. Therefore, Chain Literacy can serve as an alternative supporting activity for strengthening reading comprehension and creating a more active and interactive reading experience for elementary school students.
