Abstract

Breast milk is the best source of nutrition for infants and plays a vital role in supporting optimal growth and development. However, many breastfeeding mothers still experience problems with breast milk production, which can affect the success of exclusive breastfeeding. Moringa (Moringa oleifera) and sauropus (Sauropus androgynus) leaves are plants known to contain lactagogum compounds that can stimulate breast milk production. One easily consumed form of moringa and sauropus leaf preparations is pudding. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of moringa leaf pudding and sauropus leaf pudding in increasing breast milk quantity in breastfeeding mothers. The quantitative research method used a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design with two intervention groups. The research sample consisted of 15 people from the moringa pudding group and 15 people from the katuk pudding group with the inclusion criteria being breastfeeding mothers in Sambong Jaya Village, the working area of Sambong Pari Community Health Center and willing to be respondents, selected using a purposive sampling technique. Respondents were given an intervention in the form of consuming moringa pudding and katuk pudding twice a day for 7 days. The results of the analysis showed that giving moringa pudding significantly increased breast milk quantity (p = 0.005), while giving katuk pudding did not show a significant increase (p = 0.102). The conclusion of this study is that giving moringa pudding (Moringa oleifera) is more effective than katuk pudding (Sauropus Androgynus) in increasing breast milk quantity in breastfeeding mothers. Further research is recommended to use a larger sample and a randomized controlled trial design to obtain stronger evidence. Measurement of breast milk quantity should use an objective method with a standardized measurement time. Factors that can influence breast milk production, such as breastfeeding frequency, maternal intake, sleep quality, psychological well-being, infant age, and lactagogum use, also need to be controlled. Furthermore, longer intervention durations are needed to determine their effects over a longer period.
