Abstract

This study aims to analyze the improvement in students' understanding of geometric concepts through the implementation of an ethnomathematics approach based on Deli Serdang culture at SDN 107405 Sei Rotan. The study employed a pre-experimental design specifically a one-group pretest-posttest design in which a single group of students was assessed before and after the intervention, without a control group. The study involved 30 students. Data were collected via a test on geometric concept understanding administered before and after the implementation of the ethnomathematics approach. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, and N-Gain calculation. The analysis results revealed that the mean pretest score was 65.40 (standard deviation: 8.25), while the mean posttest score increased to 84.10 (standard deviation: 6.70). Normality tests indicated that both the pretest (p = 0.621) and posttest (p = 0.447) data were normally distributed. An N-Gain value of 0.54 indicated that the improvement in geometric concept understanding fell into the medium category. The findings demonstrate an improvement in the understanding of geometric concepts following the implementation of the Deli Serdang culture-based ethnomathematics approach.
