Abstract

Purpose. Digital transformation accelerated by advances in artificial intelligence (AI) has changed the way students explore and evaluate information, especially in the early stages of digital literacy. This study aims to analyse the information literacy practices of students of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities (FAH) and the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) of UIN Imam Bonjol Padang in the context of Digital Humanities, focusing on the use of AI-based tools in the search, discovery and evaluation of information sources. Methodology. This research uses a quantitative approach with a descriptive-comparative design. The sample consisted of 245 FAH and FST students of UIN Imam Bonjol Padang, who were purposively selected. Data were collected through a five-point Likert questionnaire and analysed using SPSS version 26 with descriptive and Chi-Square tests. The validity and reliability of the instruments were tested, with Cronbach's Alpha >0.80. Results and discussion. The findings indicate that the majority of respondents routinely use AI tools such as ChatGPT, Google Bard, Gemini, and Perplexity for initiating information searches. AI is considered highly useful for initial reference discovery, expanding exploration scopes, and distinguishing between relevant and irrelevant sources. However, doubts remain among students regarding AI's effectiveness in assessing source credibility. These results underscore the need to integrate critical thinking approaches into AI-based digital literacy education in Islamic higher education institutions. Conclusions. This study contributes to the Digital Humanities discourse by offering an initial mapping of students' interaction patterns with AI in the digital information literacy landscape.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the impact of social media utilization as a communication tool in increasing visits by students of the Library and Information Science Study Program at Padjadjaran University to the Kandaga Library, UNPAD. In the midst of the digital era, libraries are required to adapt to establish effective interactions with users. This study explores the role of Kandaga Library's social media in building awareness, attracting interest, and influencing students' decisions to make in-person visits. The research was conducted quantitatively through a survey method with 87 student respondents, with data collected using an online questionnaire and analyzed using the Pearson correlation test. The findings indicate a positive and significant relationship between social media activity and the intensity of library visits. Several elements such as social media content (r=0.628), information clarity (r=0.502), visual and design aspects (r=0.522), and the number of "likes" on posts (r=0.607) showed a significant correlation (p<0.01) with the frequency of visits. These results strengthen the understanding that social media is a powerful communication tool in increasing physical visits to the library, and can be used as a basis for designing more effective communication strategies in the future.

Abstract

Background: Modern libraries are evolving into multidimensional activity centers, focusing not only on providing information but also on comfort and social interaction. Younger generations such as Gen Z and Millennials view libraries as social spaces that blend academic activities with relaxation. One innovation introduced is the presence of cafés, which are part of the "third place" concept—a space outside the home and campus for informal socializing.Purpose: This study aims to determine the influence of café presence on increased visits and user satisfaction, assess the extent to which the third place concept supports social and academic needs, identify the main elements of attraction, and compare perceptions among students. Methods: This study employs a quantitative approach by distributing an online questionnaire to students of Padjadjaran University as respondents. Data were collected in nominal and ordinal forms through open-ended questions, closed-ended questions, and Likert scales. The study was conducted over ten days in the environment of the Kandaga Library at Padjadjaran University. Results: The café significantly increased library visits and satisfaction, with users appreciating its role in supporting both academic work and social interaction. Conclusions: The presence of a café can enhance the appeal and frequency of visits to the library. The café is not only a place to relax but also an informal collaboration space that supports contemporary learning styles.

Abstract

Introduction. This study analyses the development of soft skills among librarians at the Indonesian State Islamic University (PTKIN) in the context of AI-based technological transformation, using the ADKAR model as an analytical framework. Research Methods. A descriptive quantitative survey targeted 83 librarians from a pool of 470 PTKIN librarians, using a Likert-scale questionnaire across five ADKAR dimensions: awareness, desire, knowledge, ability, and reinforcement. Data Analysis. Descriptive statistics (frequencies, percentages, and mean scores) identified dominant dimensions and readiness gaps by education, tenure, and position. Results. Awareness, desire, and ability were dominant (>70% positive responses) among Bachelor’s/Master’s degree holders and 11-20 year veterans. Knowledge and reinforcement showed gaps (<6% contribution) for Diploma staff and support roles, indicating an imbalance in AI adoption and weak institutional support. Conclusion: The paper recommends that the targeted professional programs are necessary to boost AI literacy, digital adaptability, and collaboration, guiding PTKIN libraries in tiered training, mentoring, and policies for sustainable AI integration.
