Abstract

Efforts to increase the productivity of land kale plants with environmentally friendly cultivation techniques are by utilizing kitchen waste to be processed into liquid organic fertilizer which can spur plant growth. This study aims to examine the effect of kitchen waste liquid organic fertilizer (POC) on the growth and production of land kale plants. This research was conducted in Tolok Village, Tompaso District, Minahasa Regency, North Sulawesi. This research began in October to December 2023. The field experiment was arranged in a Randomized Group Design (RAK), with one treatment factor, namely the concentration of kitchen waste POC, consisting of P0 = 0 ml/l (control), P1 = 25 ml/l, P2 = 50 ml/l, P3 = 75 ml/l, and P4 = 100 ml/l. Parameters observed were plant height, leaf length, number of leaves, and plant fresh weight. Data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) at the 5% test level if testing with the F test is significant, followed by a different test of the means using the BNT (Least Real Difference) test at the 5% level. The results showed that the provision of POC had an effect on plant height, leaf length, number of leaves, and fresh weight of plants. Giving the best kitchen waste POC is at a concentration of 100 ml/liter, which gives the highest results in all parameters observed. Keywords: liquid organic fertilizer, kitchen waste, land kale

Abstract

Efforts to increase the growth and yield of pak choy (Brassica rapa L.) plants can be done through organic fertilization, one of which is by using coconut water-based POC. This study aims to determine the effect of coconut water POC on the growth and yield of pak choy plants. This study lasted for 2 months from February to April 2025. This study was conducted at the Green House, Faculty of Agriculture, Sam Ratulangi University Manado, using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) method with 5 treatments, namely, P₀ Control (without POC), P₁ (POC 20 ml/L water), P₂ (POC 40 ml/L water), P₃ (POC 60 ml/L water) and P₄ (POC 80 ml/L water). Each treatment was repeated 3 times so that there were 15 experimental units with each experimental unit consisting of 3 plants so that a total of 45 plants with the observed variables were plant height, number of leaves, fresh weight and root weight. Data were analyzed using ANOVA and continued with the LSD test at the 5% level with the help of Minitab software version 21. The results showed that the administration of coconut water POC significantly affected all observation parameters. The P₄ treatment (POC 80 ml/L water) produced the highest values for all parameters.   Keywords: coconut water, liquid organic fertilizer, pakcoy, Plant Growth, Plant Yield

Abstract

ABSTRACT Mustard greens (Brassica juncea L.) are a popular vegetable among Indonesians. Consumers range from the lower to the upper classes. Demand for mustard greens continues to grow in line with growing demand and public awareness of the nutritional value of vegetables. This study aims to determine the effect of providing corn waste compost on the growth and yield of green mustard plants and to determine the best dose of corn waste compost on the growth and yield of green mustard plants. The study was conducted from July to December 2024 in the Green house of the Faculty of Agriculture, Sam Ratulangi University. The research method used a Randomized Block Design (RAK) with 5 treatment levels and 4 replications, namely: P0: Control / without compost. P1 10 tons / ha) corn waste compost, P2 (20 tons / ha) corn waste compost, P3 (30 tons / ha) corn waste compost, P4 (40 tons / ha) corn waste compost. The results of the study showed that the provision of corn waste compost had a very significant effect on the growth and yield of green mustard plants (Brassica juncea L.). The best results of the provision of corn waste compost fertilizer on green mustard plants (Brassica juncea L.) were obtained in the P4 treatment (40 tons/ha), namely a plant height of 10.15 cm, the number of plant leaves was 17 strands, and produced a wet plant weight of 37.75 gr. Abstract

ABSTRACT Pakcoy (Brassica rapa L.) is a horticultural crop that is highly favored by the public; however, its productivity has declined due to limited land availability. The wick hydroponic system is an efficient alternative cultivation method. This study aimed to determine the effects of different growing media and to identify the best medium for the growth and yield of pakchoi. The research was conducted from May to June 2025 in Kotamobagu, North Sulawesi (789.71 meters above sea level), using a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with four treatments of growing media (rockwool, cocopeat, rice husk charcoal, and compost) and four replications. The observed variables included plant height, number of leaves, leaf length, and fresh weight. The results showed that the growing media treatments had a significant effect on all parameters. Compost medium (P4) produced the best growth and yield response, with a plant height of 23.06 cm, 16.5 leaves, a leaf length of 11.25 cm, and a fresh weight of 53.88 g. In conclusion, compost is the most suitable growing medium for pakchoi cultivation in the wick hydroponic system. Keywords: Pakcoy, hydroponics, wick system, growing media, compost.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Upland water spinach (Ipomoea reptans, Poir) is a widely consumed leafy vegetable due to its good nutritional content, rapid growth, and ease of cultivation; however, its productivity often varies depending on the characteristics of the varieties used. This study aimed to determine the growth characteristics of five upland water spinach varieties, namely Bisi, Bangkok LP-1, Rajawali, Serimpi, and Bika. The research was conducted in Kalasey Satu Village, Mandolang District, Minahasa Regency from June to July 2025 using a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with five treatments and three replications, totaling 15 experimental units. Observations were carried out at 25, 30, and 35 days after planting (DAP) on plant height, number of leaves, number of branches, stem diameter, and fresh weight. The results showed no significant differences among varieties at 25 and 30 DAP, while significant differences occurred at 35 DAP. The Bika variety exhibited the best growth performance with an average plant height of 49.56 cm, 57.11 leaves, 8.78 branches, 8.52 mm stem diameter, and 48.33 g fresh weight, followed by Serimpi which also showed relatively high vegetative growth. The Bisi variety had a larger stem diameter but lower leaf and branch numbers, while Bangkok LP-1 and Rajawali displayed lower overall growth and yield. Based on these results, the Bika variety is recommended for cultivation due to its superior growth characteristics, and further studies are suggested to evaluate nutritional quality and determine optimal harvest timing to ensure both high yield and desirable consumption quality.
