Abstract

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a non-communicable disease with a continuously increasing prevalence and has become a public health concern, including among the productive age group. The occurrence of T2DM is influenced by various risk factors, including demographic, genetic, and lifestyle factors. This study aimed to analyze the factors associated with the occurrence of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus among the productive age group in the working area of Talang Pangeran Primary Health Center, Ogan Ilir Regency, in 2026. This study employed a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The research sample consisted of 93 respondents selected using the simple random sampling technique. The research variables included age, sex, education level, family history, smoking habits, Body Mass Index (BMI), dietary patterns, physical activity, and stress levels. Data analysis was performed using the Chi-Square test and multiple logistic regression. The results showed that education level (p=0.013) and family history (p=0.001) had a significant association with the occurrence of T2DM. The variables of age, sex, smoking habits, BMI, dietary patterns, physical activity, and stress levels showed no significant association (p>0.05). The multivariate analysis results indicated that family history was the most dominant factor, with an OR value of 27.452 (95% CI = 7.483–100.712; p=0.000). This study concludes that family history is the primary factor associated with the occurrence of T2DM among the productive age group. Improved screening of at-risk groups, health education, and strengthened promotive and preventive efforts are needed to prevent the occurrence of T2DM.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes In-home smoking is a critical public health problem because it exposes household members, particularly children and pregnant women, to secondhand and thirdhand smoke. The proportion of "no household member smokes" indicator at Tanjung Agung Public Health Center, OKU Regency, remained far below the 80% target for three consecutive years (27% in 2023, 26% in 2024, 29% in 2025). Method: This study used a descriptive-analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 100 respondents aged ≥15 years were selected through systematic purposive sampling from 12 villages/sub-districts in the Tanjung Agung working area, using proportional allocation based on the Slovin formula. Data were collected through structured interviews and analyzed using univariate, bivariate (Chi-Square/Fisher's Exact), and multivariate (multiple logistic regression) analyses. Results: Of 100 respondents, 52% smoked inside the home. Bivariate analysis showed significant associations between sex (p=0.001), education (p=0.019), income (p=0.001), knowledge (p=0.001), and attitude (p=0.001) with in-home smoking behavior, while age showed no significant association (p=0.272). Multivariate analysis identified income (OR=20.407; 95% CI 3.306–125.980) as the dominant factor, followed by knowledge (OR=7.054; 95% CI 2.106–23.630). Conclusion: In-home smoking prevalence remains high, and low income combined with poor knowledge substantially increases the risk of this behavior. Health promotion targeting low-income households and strengthening smoke-free home policies are recommended. Keywords: In-home smoking, secondhand smoke, income, knowledge, PHBS
