Abstract

This community service activity takes the form of training in decoupage crafts from used materials which is carried out in accordance with the conditions of the community, especially housewives who are considered less productive in using their free time. Handicrafts in Medalkrisna Village are less effective, resulting in low community motivation, including in basic literacy activities. To overcome this training on crafts to become decoupage products was carried out for mothers to help increase the creativity of mothers who were also expected to be able to create products of superior quality and utilize used goods which were expected to increase household income. Crafts themselves are artistic activities that involve changing raw materials found in the local environment into valuable objects. The method for implementing this KKN activity is readiness stage, socialization program, submission of materials, carrying out creation training (decoupage craft), monitoring and evaluation activities. As long as it is thorough, precise and neat, it will look attractive and have high selling and aesthetic value. This can be seen from the community's enthusiasm for handicrafts during the program activities as well as the increase in community knowledge and skills in making decoupage crafts.

Abstract

This study used Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic theory to analyze the influence of music genre on the fashion expression of English Literature students at the University of North Sumatra. This research used a descriptive qualitative method. Data was obtained through structured interviews with three informants who have preferences in punk, alternative rock, and K-pop music genres. The results show that each music genre influences different fashion elements regarding colors, accessories, and clothing styles. The punk genre reflects the values of freedom and resistance through dark colors and distinctive accessories, alternative rock highlights self-expression through edgy fashion elements, while K-pop carries modernity and femininity with pastel colors and styles inspired by Korean popular culture. The environment of USU's Faculty of Humanities also plays a vital role in supporting the diversity of student fashion expressions to interact with music subcultures and social identities. Thus, fashion is not only a visual representation of musical preferences but also functions as a sign system that communicates the identity, values, and affiliations of the student community on campus.

Abstract

Community service activities carried out by students at the Islamic University 45 Bekasi aim to overcome the high rate of stunting in Ridogalih Village, Cibarusah District, Bekasi Regency. This initiative began with direct observations of the health and nutritional conditions of the community, including inspections of health facilities and child rearing patterns. The student team also conducted in-depth interviews with mothers and local health workers to gain information regarding knowledge and practices related to stunting. After collecting data, the team developed and implemented educational sessions that focused on increasing awareness about balanced nutrition, breastfeeding techniques, and reproductive health practices. The methods used include presentations, demonstrations and interactive discussions to ensure the material is easy for participants to understand and apply. The results of this activity show significant progress in several aspects. The increase in participants' knowledge regarding stunting prevention is reflected in a better understanding of nutrition and health. In addition, there have been real changes in the implementation of health practices, such as improvements in diet and breastfeeding techniques. The effectiveness of the program can also be seen from reports that participants are starting to apply the prevention strategies that have been taught. Although long-term results will take time to fully emerge, early indications are that stunting rates in the village are starting to decline. With a data-based approach and active community participation, this activity succeeded in having a positive impact in handling stunting in Ridogalih Village.

Abstract

Zines are grassroots publications that have long served as media of cultural and political resistance, traditionally circulated in material form within relatively small and tightly bound communities. With the advent of the internet, however, the scope and visibility of zines have expanded well beyond spatial and temporal boundaries, reducing production costs while simultaneously amplifying the reach of counter- hegemonic discourses. This study investigates how zines operate simultaneously as subject and as power within digital contexts, drawing conceptually on Michel Foucault’s theory of knowledge and power to frame the analysis. A mixed-methods design was employed, with 85 zines purposively selected from a population of 568 titles, determined through the Slovin formula with a 10% margin of error. Data were examined through a narrative approach, supported by AI-assisted text analysis, allowing for both qualitative interpretation and systematic computational support. The findings reveal that digital environments not only reinforce the omnipresence, omniscience, and omnipotence of resistance discourses but also transform the dynamics of knowledge production, positioning zines as effective vehicles for disseminating counter-discourses. By operating as both disseminators of resistance (subject) and as agents shaping collective truths (power), zines highlight the shifting relationship between grassroots media and structures of authority. Limitations and recommendations for future research are also discussed.
