Abstract

The Student Council (OSIS) serves as a platform for developing students' character, leadership, and participation; however, newly appointed officers still require stronger capacity to understand organizational functions, prepare work programs, manage administration, and build coordination. This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of the OSIS officers at SMP Negeri 60 Palembang in applying effective, participatory, and accountable organizational governance. A participatory approach was employed through needs identification, socialization, interactive discussions, simulations of meetings and work-program preparation, administrative assistance, and evaluation. The activity involved 25 OSIS officers who had been newly appointed in early August 2026. Post-test results and question-and-answer sessions showed that 86.5% of participants understood the basic aspects of organizational governance. Participants also demonstrated better understanding of task division, work-program preparation, organizational administration, communication, and activity evaluation, although several participants still required support to build confidence in speaking and expressing opinions. The activity strengthened the capacity of the student organization and highlighted the need for continuous mentoring so that good governance practices can be consistently implemented.
