Abstract

The nutritional status of school-age children is a key indicator for assessing their health and growth. Daily food intake is a primary factor influencing nutritional status; intake that fails to meet nutritional requirements can lead to issues such as undernutrition, overnutrition, and growth disorders. This study aimed to examine the relationship between food intake and nutritional status among students at Sekolah Amanah 1. A quantitative method was employed using an observational analytic design and a cross-sectional approach. The study sample consisted of 60 students selected via simple random sampling. Data on food intake were collected using a 24-Hour Food Recall questionnaire and a Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ), while nutritional status was determined through weight and height measurements calculated using the Body Mass Index-for-Age (BMI-for-Age) index. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods, specifically the Chi-Square test, with a significance level of 5%. The results indicated that the majority of respondents had good food intake and normal nutritional status. Bivariate analysis revealed a significant relationship between food intake and nutritional status among the students (p<0.05). Thus, better food intake was associated with better nutritional status. This study is expected to serve as a basis for enhancing nutrition education for students, parents, and the school.
