Abstract

Waste management is one of the important challenges in rural environmental development, especially in areas with tourism potential. Increasing community activities and tourist visits can produce a volume of waste which, if not managed properly, has the potential to reduce environmental quality, disrupt community comfort, and reduce the attractiveness of tourist destinations. This community service activity aims to increase community awareness, knowledge, skills, and participation in participation-based waste management as part of efforts to create clean villages while supporting sustainable tourism development. Activities are carried out through a participatory approach which includes problem identification, coordination with partners, socialization, waste sorting education, waste management training, direct practice, mentoring, monitoring, and evaluation. The target of the activity is village communities, youth groups, environmental managers, and community groups that are related to tourism activities. The participatory approach places the community not only as beneficiaries, but as the main actor in the process of planning, implementing, and sustaining waste management. The results of the activity are directed at the formation of community understanding of waste management from sources, increasing participation in maintaining environmental cleanliness, and strengthening waste management practices that support the comfort and sustainability of tourist areas. This activity shows that participation-based community empowerment can be a relevant strategy to integrate environmental, social, and tourism development aspects in a sustainable manner.
