Abstract

Religious radicalism remains a serious challenge to social and national life in Indonesia. This phenomenon manifests not only through acts of violence but also through intolerant attitudes, ideological exclusivism, and the rejection of diversity. This article aims to analyze the concept of moderate Islam as a strategic approach to addressing and curbing the rise of religious radicalism in Indonesia. The study employs a qualitative method, utilizing a literature review approach that examines both classical and contemporary writings on Islamic moderation, radicalism, and the dynamics of religious life in Indonesia. The findings indicate that moderate Islam grounded in the principles of tawasuth (moderation), tawazun (balance), tasamuh (tolerance), and i‘tidal (uprightness) serves as an ethical and social framework capable of strengthening social cohesion, fostering tolerance, and preventing the spread of extremist religious ideologies. The article asserts that reinforcing moderate Islam is a crucial component of the long-term strategy to maintain social stability and diversity in Indonesia.
