Abstract

Kerinci Kanan Village, Kerinci Kanan Subdistrict, Siak Regency, is a village whose main source of income comes from oil palm plantations. As a result, vehicles transporting oil palm products constantly travel along the village roads. However, several sections of the road in Kerinci Kanan Village—particularly those with sharp curves and bordering oil palm plantations—create blind spots and pose a high risk of traffic accidents. The main project of the 2026 UMRI Group 25 Community Service Program (KKN) aims to manufacture and install blind spot mirrors. This program also seeks to foster community understanding and participation regarding the role of blind spot mirrors in driving safety. The implementation method employs a participatory approach through surveys, field observations, as well as outreach and coordination with village officials and residents. One blind spot mirror unit was successfully constructed and installed with the involvement of KKN students, village officials, and the Karang Taruna youth organization. Evaluation results from interviews indicate that this program effectively minimizes the risks associated with blind spots and increases residents’ awareness and caution when driving on sharp curves. It is recommended that this program be continued with regular maintenance and the expansion of installations to other high-risk locations in Kerinci Kanan Village.
