Abstract

Education plays an important role in shaping an individual's character and abilities, with students' interest in reading as the main foundation for intellectual development and critical thinking skills. However, in today's digital age, there has been an alarming decline in students' interest in reading, who are more interested in spending their free time playing games than reading. The development of information technology and digital entertainment such as smartphones, tablets, and computers has changed students' habits in utilizing their free time. Playing games is the main choice, while reading interest is marginalized, which has a negative impact on students' literacy skills. The decline in reading interest has serious implications, especially in Indonesia, where the Human Development Index (HDI) in the field of education is still low compared to neighboring Malaysia. This low interest in reading is influenced by the lack of reading habits from an early age and unequal access to education. Good reading skills not only affect academic achievement but also the development of critical, analytical, and creative thinking skills. This study aims to understand the factors that affect students' interest in reading, especially the influence of game time. The Simple Linear Regression method was used to analyze the relationship between game play time and students' reading interest, which provided valuable insights for educators and parents in designing effective educational strategies. The study focused on SMP Negeri 7 Binjai and used a linear regression method to analyze data on students' reading and gaming habits. The results of the study show that excessive game playing time, an average of 9 to 10 hours per day, has an impact on increasing and decreasing students' interest in reading. This data was analyzed using the RapidMiner application, which showed a correlation between playing games and students' reading interest.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to study the decline of organic functional group through the process of burning in peat. In addition, this study was also to examine the relationship between water content in peat and organic functional group after combustion (burning).  Peat drying was conducted in an oven at a temperature of 75°C with the interval of 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 hours.  Each time interval had three replicates within two sets of experiments so that the total number of samples were 42 (experimental units).  Variables measured were moisture content, total acidity, COOH groups, and OH-phenolate.  The relationship between the water content with total acidity, COOH groups and OH-phenolate were determined by the equation y = bx + a.  The results showed that the relationship between the water content with organic functional group was linear.  While the relationship between peat water content with organic functional group after burning was irregular, although water levels through the process of burning have been greatly reduced. Keywords: Burning peat; organic functional groups; water content [How to Cite: Said R, FH Yusran, A Haris and S Asmawi. 2014. Abstract

This study discusses the transformation of civil judgment execution as a crucial step toward achieving Court Excellence in Indonesia. The main issue examined is the persistent challenges in enforcing civil court decisions, which often hinder the execution process. The objective of this study is to identify the core problems in civil execution, elaborate on the role of Court Excellence within Indonesia’s judicial system, and propose concrete measures to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of execution. The research employs a normative juridical method, using an analytical approach to legislation, legal doctrines, and relevant court decisions. The findings reveal that the primary obstacles in execution include unmet costs, third-party resistance, issues in the wording of judgments, the applicant’s inability to identify assets, undiscovered execution objects, and difficulties in executing court decisions. The transformation of civil execution involves improving the drafting of judgments, enhancing inter-agency coordination, implementing strict supervision, providing training and education, and establishing a special unit within the Supreme Court. The results of this study highlight the importance of transforming civil judgment execution as an integral part of the effort to achieve Court Excellence in Indonesia. This transformation is expected to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of executions, build a more authoritative judiciary, and ensure justice and compliance with the law in society.
