Abstract

The community empowerment program based on Mbeca Wombo aims to integrate local wisdom with efforts to strengthen food security and family economic independence. The program seeks to improve community understanding of the values of Mbeca Wombo, optimize the use of local food resources, develop productive economic activities, and strengthen business management and marketing capacities. The program was implemented using a participatory approach through the stages of identifying problems and potentials, planning, training, practice, mentoring, monitoring, evaluation, and sustainability planning. The evaluation results showed improvements across all program indicators. Understanding of the values and practices of Mbeca Wombo increased from 52.0% to 88.0%, knowledge of local food utilization from 55.0% to 90.0%, and the ability to diversify family food consumption from 48.0% to 82.0%. The ability to develop productive economic activities increased from 50.0% to 87.0%, product branding and promotion from 35.0% to 81.0%, and the use of digital media for marketing from 32.0% to 78.0%. Community participation in empowerment groups increased from 46.0% to 88.0%, while the ability to independently manage business activities increased from 41.0% to 83.0%. The program produced outputs including an empowerment group, local-potential-based products, product packaging and identity, promotional media, simple financial records, and a sustainability plan. Thus, Mbeca Wombo can serve as cultural and social capital for developing local food resources and productive economic activities to strengthen food security and family economic independence.
