Abstract

The plantation sector, particularly the rubber commodity, is one of the main sources of income for the people of Kuang Dalam Barat Village, Rambang Kuang Sub-district, Ogan Ilir Regency. The selling price of rubber received by farmers greatly determines their welfare, yet the price-setting process often raises questions regarding its fairness, given the relatively weaker bargaining position of farmers compared to collectors. This study aims to identify the mechanism of rubber price-setting in Kuang Dalam Barat Village, analyze its conformity with Ibn Taymiyyah's thought, and identify the supporting and inhibiting factors in this practice. The study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with rubber farmers and collectors, and documentation, and were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, with validity tested through source, technique, and time triangulation. The results show that the rubber price-setting mechanism proceeds through tapping and collecting the produce, selling to collectors, quality inspection, open weighing, and price determination referring to the factory reference price and rubber quality, followed by cash payment. Viewed from Ibn Taymiyyah's thought, this practice generally reflects the principles of justice ('adl), honesty (shiddiq), mutual consent (an-taradhin), transparency, and balance of rights and obligations, as prices are formed naturally through market mechanisms without indications of fraud (tadlis), hoarding (ihtikar), or price manipulation. The supporting factors are transparency in weighing and the long-established trust relationship between farmers and collectors, while the inhibiting factors are price dependence on the factory reference, rubber quality, and fluctuations in demand and market conditions beyond the control of either party.
