Abstract

This article examines the challenges facing Islamic education in responding to the phenomena of post-truth, disinformation, and hoaxes, which increasingly threaten the epistemological and social order of Indonesian Muslim society. The objectives of this study are to identify the epistemological implications of the post-truth era for the Muslim community, analyze the structural challenges faced by Islamic educational institutions, revitalize Quranic values as the foundation of digital literacy, and formulate transformative strategies for Islamic education. This study employs a qualitative method using a conceptual-integrative content analysis approach to examine accredited academic literature, normative Islamic texts (the Quran and Hadith), and the works of contemporary Islamic educational thinkers. The findings indicate that: i) the post-truth era creates an epistemological crisis exacerbated by the phenomena of digital taqlid and algorithmic echo chambers; ii) Islamic education faces structural challenges in curriculum, educator competencies, the digital information ecosystem, and digital character; iii) the concepts of tabayyun, tadabbur, and tafakkur constitute the foundations of Islamic epistemology that are relevant and structurally aligned with contemporary digital literacy methods such as SIFT and lateral reading; iv) the methodology of hadith chain criticism (jarh wa ta’dil) represents a legacy of multi-layered verification that can be adapted for digital literacy. The implications of this research underscore the urgency of reformulating the Islamic Religious Education curriculum based on the integration of Islamic epistemology and digital literacy.

Abstract

Religious moderation has become a crucial discourse in Indonesian Islamic education amid rising radicalism, intolerance, and identity polarization. This study focuses on how religious moderation is organically practiced in a multireligious educational setting. The study employs a qualitative case study design at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri 1 Kepulauan Meranti, Riau, utilizing document analysis, participant observation, and in-depth interviews with 15 informants. Data were analyzed through the stages of thematic reduction, display, and verification following Miles and Huberman. The findings indicate that religious moderation cannot be reduced to state policy alone but must emerge as a theological consciousness rooted in the Islamic value of wasathiyah. The study concludes that a holistic-integrative transformation of the Islamic Religious Education curriculum encompassing content, methods, activities, and character assessment is absolutely necessary to foster a generation that is moderate, tolerant, and committed to national unity. The case of State Madrasah Tsanawiyah 1 in the Meranti Islands, Riau, demonstrates that the coexistence of Islamic madrasahs and Buddhist educational institutions can serve as a living laboratory for religious moderation education, evidenced by organic interfaith cooperation that transcends formal policy mandates.

Abstract

This study presents a narrative literature analysis of the implementation of religious moderation values in Bedeng Delapan Village, Kayu Aro Barat Subdistrict, Kerinci Regency, Jambi Province. The village was recognized as a Village of Harmony by the Governor of Jambi on December 2, 2021, and as a Village of Pancasila Awareness by the Indonesian Pancasila Ideology Development Agency (BPIP) in collaboration with the Institut Agama Islam Negeri Kerinci on July 18, 2022. Through a narrative literature review approach, this study identifies the values of religious moderation that have been implemented, the mechanisms for their implementation, and the results achieved. Literature sources include policy documents from the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, scientific journals, and relevant case studies. The synthesis results indicate that the values of tawassuth, i’tidal, tasamuh, syura, ishlah, qudwah, al-la unf, muwathanah, and i’tiraf have been effectively realized through national commitment, non-violent tolerance, and accommodation of local culture. This implementation has fostered harmony in line with Pancasila, resulting in fair attitudes, respect for differing opinions, and sustainable social harmony. This study offers recommendations for replicating this harmony model in other multicultural regions.
