Abstract

Plyometric training is one of the most widely used training methods to improve the physical fitness of volleyball athletes. However, variations in subject characteristics, training forms, training equipment, and intervention duration have led to diverse research findings. This study aims to examine the effects of plyometric training on the physical fitness of volleyball athletes through a systematic literature review (SLR). A systematic search for articles was conducted using the Google Scholar, Scopus, and SpringerLink using keywords relevant to the research topic. Article selection was based on inclusion and exclusion criteria using the PRISMA guidelines, resulting in 12 research articles that met the criteria. The synthesis results indicate that plyometric training consistently improves lower-body power, jump height, sprint speed, agility, and sport-specific physical abilities in volleyball athletes. The most commonly used training programs lasted 4–8 weeks with a frequency of 2–3 times per week on various training surfaces, such as hard surfaces, sand, and water. Thus, plyometric training can be recommended as an effective training method to improve the physical performance of volleyball athletes.
