Abstract

Low reading self-efficacy is one of the factors affecting students' confidence in comprehending Arabic texts and weakening their participation in learning. This study aims to examine the effect of implementing the Student Team Achievement Divisions (STAD) cooperative learning model on the reading self-efficacy of eighth-grade students in maharah qirā'ah learning. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental Nonequivalent Control Group Design was applied to a sample of 63 students, consisting of 31 in the experimental group and 32 in the control group. Data were collected through a reading self-efficacy questionnaire and a qirā'ah test before and after treatment, then analyzed using SPSS with the Mann-Whitney U test. The results showed that the mean self-efficacy score increased from 50.77 in the pretest to 64.55 in the posttest, with a significance value of 0.003 (< 0.05), proving that the implementation of the STAD model significantly improved students' reading self-efficacy.

Abstract

This study analyzes the content of the Arabic textbook At-Takallum: First Series using William Francis Mackey’s theory of textbook evaluation, focusing on selection, gradation, presentation, and repetition. Employing a qualitative content analysis method, data were collected directly from the textbook and analyzed descriptively. The results indicate that the book generally fulfills Mackey’s principles. In terms of selection, it provides daily-life topics, though some vocabulary is too specific for beginners. Regarding gradation, the material progresses logically from simple to complex. For presentation, it utilizes staged sequencing, clear examples, visual aids, and contextualized language. As for repetition, vocabulary and structures are consistently reinforced across the four language skills. Ultimately, the book possesses strong pedagogical value, yet requires refinement in vocabulary selection to better align with the basic communicative needs of beginner learners.
