Abstract

This research aimed to examine the Multigroup Ethnic Identity Measure’s (MEIM 1992) adequacy to explore Indonesian youth’s ethnic identity. Hence MEIM 1992 was adapted into MEIM Indonesia through translation-back-translation method. Involving 448 (179 or 40% male and 269 or 60% female) students aged 17 – 28 years (Mean = 19.87; SD = 1.30) with different ethnic backgrounds in a private university in Yogyakarta as respondents, EFA with SPSS showed that the MEIM Indonesia measured one factor as MEIM 1992 does, CFA with R- studio showed that the one factor model fitted the data (factor loadings ranged from 0.323 to 0.750), its items had r it -s that ranged from 0.32 to 0.64, as a scale had a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.84, showed a concurrent validity coefficient r =0.23 (p < 0.01) with the RSeS Indonesia as a criterion, and was able to differentiate the levels of ethnic identity of sample pairs of Javanese, Bataks, Dayaks, Chinese, Florinese and a mixture of two or three ethnic groups. Hence, the MEIM Indonesia was conceptually and empirically proven to have construct equivalence with the 1992 MEIM as well as to show adequacy and was coined Skala Identitas Suku Bangsa (SISB).

Abstract

The subject matter of the culturally-turned Psychology is subjectivity. Adopting the postructuralist Lacanian theory of subjectivity, the human subject is the split subject and/or the lacking subject. The dinamics of subjectivity are constituted by the Other’s desire that circulates in the daily life in the form of discourse and affects subjectivity through identification and interpellation. Research in the culturally turned Psychology aims at creating or constructing in the sense of producing (new) knowledge through reading or interpreting phenomena including things, actions, social institutions, social events, various forms of speech including written, visual, oral, and the like, all of which may be treated as social texts in the sense of a world of signifiers that represents certain meanings in the widest sense of the word. Such kind of research may be conceived as a form of cultural criticism; hence it should ultimately create difference or change in the lives of those it serves. Semiotics and discourse analysis are supposed to be the main methodological tools in the culturally-turned Pschology research.

Abstract

Law number 23 of 2022 concerning “psychology education and services” provides certainty regarding higher education of psychology in Indonesia. In particular, this article wants to explore and provide orientation towards professional psychology education programs in Indonesia. After discussing the brief history of professional psychology education programs in Indonesia and the legal complexities that accompany them, the authors explore the curriculum of professional programs compared to academic programs. The writers try to look at two aspects of the curriculum: (1) substantive knowledge and skills regarding scientific disciplines; (2) knowledge of the service context and practice of the discipline. The authors then try to identify four competencies that need to be learned in the Professional Psychology program. These competencies will be described in the curriculum framework proposed by the authors; the curriculum framework emphasizes practical aspects, competency-based curricula, and problem-based learning.

Abstract

The essence of education is communication between educators and students. Teaching as a school education practice has two aspects, namely informative in the framework of forming skills and formative in the context of forming the personality of students. This current study aims to reveal the formative aspects of teacher-student communication patterns in the context of learning subjects in class based on Lacan's Theory of the Four Discourses. The research participants consisted of teachers and students of grades IV and V as class units who were carrying out Social Sciences lessons in three elementary schools in Yogyakarta. Data were collected through audio recordings of teacher-student communication in class. Data were transcribed and analyzed by four researchers separately, the results were discussed to find emerging themes derived from Lacan's Theory of the Four Discourses. The results showed that three types of Lacanian discourse emerged in teacher-student communication in the three schools studied, namely Discourse of the Master, Discourse of the University, and Discourse of the Analyst. This research will be followed up with research on the types of Lacanian discourse that are applied in writing textbooks for subjects in elementary schools including but not limited to Social Sciences.
