Abstract

Plant extracts can be used as biolarvacide to kill Aedes aegypti larvae, one of which is Ocimum sanctum leaf extract. The aim of the study was to analyze the effect of O. sanctum leaf methanol extract on Ae. aegypti larvae and histopathological alteration of midgut. The study used an experimental design. O. sanctum leaf extract was made by evaporation methods at 0.1%, 0.25%, 0.5%, 0.75%, and 1% concentration. The experiment was repeated four times for each concentration. Observation of larvae mortality was done after 24 hours of treatment. The results of histopathological observation showed that there was the alteration in epithelial midgut Ae. aegypti larvae. The LC50 value of O. sanctum was 0.66%, while the LC90 value obtained was 1.38%. The results showed that the mortality of Ae. aegypti larvae up to 90% required more than 1% of extract concentration.

Abstract

Tegal district is a dengue-endemic area. One of the strategies to control Ae. aegypti is the use of insecticides. The determination of insecticide resistance in a dengue-endemic area is useful for supporting policies for Ae. aegypti control program. The aim of this study is to determine the susceptibility of Ae. aegypti in Tegal district, Central Java. Aedes aegypti larvae were collected from June to July 2018. Susceptibility bioassay of Ae. aegypti larvae against temephos and Ae. aegypti female against permethrin were conducted refers to the WHO protocol. The susceptibility of Ae. aegypti was interpreted based on WHO protocol as well. The mortality of Ae. aegypti larvae were at 0.025 ppm by 90%. The LC50 at 0.0005 ppm, and LC99 at 1.1037 ppm, respectively. The mortality rate of Ae. aegypti against permethrin was 26%. The LT50 at 6611.636 minutes, and LT99 at 5958807.272 minutes, respectively. The susceptibility of Ae. aegypti larvae were possible resistant but adult Ae. aegypti was resistant.

Abstract

Livestock of broiler chickens using several types of cages, including the type of litter stage and litter postal. Treatment of chicken manure in both types of cages will cause the condition of the manure as the habitat of mite family Macrochelidae will be different. The diversity of mites family Macrochelidae are suspected to be different in manure found on stage litter cages compared to litter postal cages and influenced by some environmental factors. The aim of this study is to analyze the diversity of mites family Macrochelidae and its relation to environmental factors. The obtained manure sample was then taken to the laboratory and placed on a modified Barlese-Tullgren for mite isolation. The mites obtained are then counted, preserved, and identified at the Laboratory. Environmental factors measured are temperature and humidity. The diversity data obtained were analyzed using the Shannon-Wiener index and the Shannon-Evennes index. Pearson correlation test to determine the relationship between temperature and humidity to the diversity of mites of Macrochelidae family. Five species of mite Macrochelidae are Macrocheles sp.1, Macrocheles sp.2, Glyptholaspis sp., Neopodocinum sp., Holostaspella sp. The diversity index of mites family Macrochelidae on manure litter stage is 0.81354. The index diversity of mites on manure litter postal is 0.79871. The humidity factor influences the diversity of the mites of family Macrochelidae in both types of cages.

Abstract

Ability to infestation and abundance of parasitic mites in Aedes spp. larvae cannot be separated from the influence of various factors. Ecological factors have been suggested to play a role determine the presence of parasitic mites that under certain conditions become a key factor in determining the abundance of parasitic mites on Aedes spp. larvae. The aim of this study to determine the ecological factors affect the abundance of parasitic mites on Aedes spp. larvae in Bogor Regency. Capturing of Aedes spp. larvae was performed directly on the habitats found in indoor and outdoor. Capturing mites in the body of Aedes spp. larvae was performed using insect forceps. Ecological factors measured were dissolved oxygen (DO), pH, temperature, and total dissolved solid (TDS). The influence of ecological factors was analyzed using regression and correlation analysis. The result of mite identification has been obtained three species of mites that are Halacarus sp., Histiostoma sp., and Hydrozetes sp. The result indicated that total dissolved solid (TDS) and temperature was the factors that determined the abundance of mites. The factors of pH, and dissolved oxygen (DO) did not determine the abundance of parasitic mites of Aedes spp. larvae. The research result can be further developed as a new alternative to Dengue Hemorraghic Fever control and provide information on parasitic mites that infest Aedes spp. larvae. In addition, this results become an early step in controlling of Aedes spp. strategy platform by the parasitic mites.

Abstract

Rats (Rattus sp) are rodents that play an important role in public health as zoonoses. In the world there are 29 rodent and 171 species of the Muridae. Rats can potentially be a reservoir of infectious diseases such as from Toxocara, Capillaria hepatica and protozoan groups. Among the worms found in the intestines of rats can infect humans and animals including Echinostomes cause severe gastrointestinal, epigastric or abdominal pain accompanied by diarrhea, fatigue and malnutrition. The purpose of this study was to determine the type of rat endoparasite that has the potential to be zoonotic in the residential environment of residential of 3 villages in Bogor Regency, namely Batu City, Mekar Jaya and Parakan. This type of research is Cross-sectional   approach. Sampling using random sampling technique by collecting various rat habitats as many as 100 traps. The trap success value is 11%.  Rat that were caught for 3 days were 33 consisting of Rattus tanezumi (15.15%), R. norvegicus (18.2%), R.tiomanicus (12.1%), Bandicota indica (24.2%) and Mus musculus (12.1%). Microscopic results of endoparasite found hookworm eggs and larvae, Entamoeba histolytica  cyst, E.coli cyst, Chilomatrix mesnili, Hymenolepis diminuta, H.nana, Trychostrongylus sp, Blastocystis hominis . The community around location should always  pay attention to sanitation and maintain cleanliness to avoid the risk  transmission of diseases caused rats                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Keyword: Endoparasite, Zoonoses, Rat

Abstract

Atypical human trypanosomiasis (AHT) is a zoonotic disease caused by animal trypanosomes, one of which is Trypanosoma lewisi, a parasite that naturally infects rodents and can be transmitted to humans. Cases of AHT have been reported in several Asian and African countries, particularly affecting infants and immunocompromised individuals. However, AHT remains underreported due to nonspecific clinical manifestations, limited public awareness, and the lack of sensitive diagnostic methods. This narrative review synthesizes recent scientific evidence on AHT caused byT. lewisi. A systematic literature search was conducted using PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar, focusing on full-text articles published between 2016 and 2026. Relevant studies were qualitatively analyzed to address epidemiological distribution, zoonotic transmission mechanisms, and diagnostic approaches and their limitations. The review results indicate that T. lewisi is widely distributed among rodent populations and has the potential to infect humans. Microscopic examination remains the most commonly used diagnostic method but shows low sensitivity, particularly in cases of low parasitemia. In contrast, molecular methods such as PCR and LAMP demonstrate higher sensitivity and specificity, while serological methods such as ELISA show potential for epidemiological surveillance, although further standardization is required. In conclusion, AHT caused by T. lewisi is a neglected zoonotic disease that warrants increased public health attention through strengthened surveillance, improved diagnostic capacity, and the implementation of a One Health approach.
