Abstract

Education is a critical component that cannot be separated from an individual’s life. One of many important factors that could support, encourage, and give zeal in the learning process is motivation. The COVID-19 pandemic nowadays indirectly triggers a rapid and drastic change in the learning process, one of them being lecture that must be held online. This repeated cross-sectional research aimed to give a description regarding the fluctuation of students’ academic motivation level before, in the beginning, and until one-year after online learning. The data used in this study are primary and secondary data which are collected gradually and analyzed using Summary Independent Sample T-Test. The result of this research showed no significant differences in academic motivation before COVID-19 and during the early days of Learning From Home (µbefore = 4.777; µbeginning = 4.808; sig = 0.432), nevertheless, a significant decrease is observable one year after the online learning (µnow = 4.345; sigbefore-now = <0.001; sigbeginning-now = <0.001). The decrease in students’ academic motivation is certainly a crucial problem that is prioritized to be resolved. Hence, lecturers need to adapt with this change and create learning innovation in order to trigger students’ learning motivation.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract. Grace is the main and foremost construct in Christian life whose existence cannot be empirically measured. Nevertheless, Bufford, Sisemore, and Blackburn (2017) succeeded in developing a scale that can measure Christian’s experience, belief, and attitudes towards grace called Dimensions of Grace Scale (DGS). The purpose of this research was to evaluate the internal structure of DGS using Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and reliability analysis.  The DGS scale was translated into Indonesian language and distributed to 401 Christians over 17 years of age. The DGS scale has five dimensions which are Experiencing God’s Grace, Costly Grace, Grace to Self, Grace from Others, and Grace to Others. However, the EFA shows that six factors are the best grouping for DGS. Moreover, Costly Grace dimension was separated into two dimensions that are Grace and Responsibility and Graceful Avoidance of Personal Legalism, in line with Costly Grace theory. DGS mempunyai lima dimensi yaitu dimensi Experiencing God’s Grace, Costly Grace, Grace to Self, Grace from Others, dan Grace to Others. Namun, Exploratory Analysis Factor menunjukkan bahwa pengelompokkan terbaik DGS terdapat pada enam dimensi, dimana dimensi Costly Grace terbagi menjadi dua, yaitu dimensi Grace and Responsibility dan Graceful Avoidance of Personal Legalism, sejalan dengan teori Costly Grace.

Abstract

Procrastination, the habitual delaying of tasks, has long been considered to negatively affect procrastinators. Chu and Choi (2005), however, have newly recognized active procrastination, a form that has positive effects on procrastinators. This study aims to validate the use of the Active Procrastination Scale (APS) in bahasa Indonesia. In this validation, 239 undergraduate students completed online questionnaires consisting of the APS and other measurements (GPA, Pure Procrastination Scale (PPS), Academic Motivation Scale (AMS), and International Personality Item Pool (IPIP-50 item) in Indonesian. The data was analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), exploratory factor analysis (EFA), reliability analysis, intra-correlation analysis, and correlation analysis with other criteria. Both CFA and EFA revealed that all items matched the same factors as Choi and Moran (2009)’s original design (RMSEA ≤ 0.08, GFI ≥ 0.9, CR ≥ 0.7, AVE ≥ 0.5). In addition, all dimensions were reliable (CITC ≥ 0.3, α ≥ 0.6). Meanwhile, intra-correlation analysis indicated that each dimension correlated with all others, in keeping with previous findings. The same findings were also found in correlation analysis. Each dimension showed the same correlation patterns with other criteria as the prior findings. In conclusion, the APS-Bahasa Indonesia is a valid procrastination measurement.

Abstract

Validity evidence based on internal structure is important for psychological measurements and this internal structure can be evaluated by factor analysis. Two types of factor analysis are often conducted on psychometric tests: confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and exploratory factor analysis (EFA). This study compared the groupings of the 30-item Indonesian version of the Academic Motivation Scale(AMS–Bahasa Indonesia), using both CFA and EFA. The CFA of the data sample from 1,168 undergraduates indicated that all dimensions and sub dimensions of the AMS–Bahasa Indonesia had good internal structural validity. Each subdimension, dimension, and variable of the AMS–Bahasa Indonesia fulfilled the goodness of fit criteria (RMSEA ? 0.08; GFI ? 0.9; CR ? 0.7). The EFA showed that all items of the three dimensions grouped perfectly as designed by Vallerand et al. (1992), and the factor loading values of all items are greater than or equal to 0.4. Although there are cross loadings of items, it can be explained as why it occurs. The results of the internal consistency analysis showed that the AMS–Bahasa Indonesia is a reliable measurement (? ? 0.7). In conclusion the AMS–Bahasa Indonesia is a valid instrument for measuring academic motivation accurately and reliably.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to investigate variances in the patterns of the correlation between academic motivation, procrastination, and GPA among students from different universities in Surabaya. This research was conducted using a correlational method involving 1,060 students from four years: 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020 (n respectively 209, 187, 232, 432). The sampling method was accidental random sampling from February to May 2021. The results showed that GPA, academic motivation, and procrastination fluctuated differently depending on the year of study. The average GPA tends to be high in the first year (µ=3.162) then increases in the second year (µ=3.485) decreases in the third year (µ=3.281) and slightly increases again in the final year (µ=3.309). Academic motivation levels also fluctuated during the four years of study (µ2020=3.849; µ2019=3.735; µ2018=3.917; µ2017=3.808). Meanwhile, procrastination tends to increase from year to year. From the results, it can be concluded that the occurrence of fluctuations in GPA, academic motivation, and procrastination from students is influenced by many factors in the learning process. However, students who can manage their emotions and motivation well tend to have a higher chance of success. Therefore, it is necessary to have the right intervention to help solve their problem of learning.

Abstract

This study addresses the need for a culturally adapted and validated measurement tool for assessing Dark Triad traits in the Indonesian population. The Dark Triad, consisting of narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy, are associated with various undesirable social and behavioral outcomes worldwide. Our research objective was to validate the Dark Triad Dirty Dozen scale within the Indonesian setting, using a multi-stage methodology, including Principal Component Analysis, Confirmatory Factor Analysis, reliability testing, and invariance testing. A sample of 429 Indonesian undergraduate students (17-23 years old) completed the adapted Dark Triad Dirty Dozen Scale, revealing strong psychometric properties, including validity by confirming a three-factor structure consistent with the theoretical framework, with model fit indices meeting established criteria (RMSEA = 0.054; GFI = 0.932; AGFI = 0.890; CFI = 0.971; NFI = 0.914; TLI = 0.959) and high reliability (α ≥ 0.7). There is also measurement invariance across men and women in DTDD. In conclusion, the adapted Dark Triad Dirty Dozen Scale is a valid and reliable means to assess Dark Triad traits in Indonesia, contributing to a deeper understanding of personality traits and their implications in this unique cultural context.

Abstract

Dissatisfaction in a relationship leads to both emotional and social loneliness. The emergence of loneliness stems from a mismatch between the quality of the relationship and expectations. A study was conducted to evaluate the validation of the Short Form Social and Emotional Loneliness Scale for Adults (SELSA-S) Bahasa Indonesian version, based on internal structure and its relationship with other variables. Using secondary data from 155 active students, the exploratory factor analysis (EFA) grouped 14 SELSA-S items. The grouping of social, romantic, and family dimensions in the Indonesian SELSA-S aligned with the initial design and the validity of SELSA-S in Brazil, Slovakia, and Turkey. All dimensions correlated significantly with the neuroticism variable, indicating that loneliness is positively associated with anxiety, depression, and emotional instability. The validation was supported by consistent reliability tests, confirming that the Indonesian version of SELSA-S is reliable in accurately measuring loneliness.

Abstract

The Heart Technique is claimed by its users and creator to be effective in overcoming specific phobias in just 20 to 30 minutes. This study aims to test the effectiveness of The Heart Technique in online settings toward specific phobias. The research used two-group pretest–posttest design in individual and group sessions. The participants were 130 people aged 18-58 years, domiciled in Indonesia, selected using purposive sampling. The measuring instruments are Subjective Unit of Distress (SUD) and Severity Measure For Specific Phobia-Adult. The results of the Mann Whitney-U analysis showed that there was a significant decrease in the measurement of the two measuring instruments (p<0.05). Although individual and group sessions were able to significantly reduce the severity of the phobia to a neutral or non-phobic category, this technique was more effective in individual sessions as seen from the Wilcoxon test (p<0.05). The results showed that The Heart Technique can be used as an alternative solution to overcome psychological problems, especially phobias.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop a short version of the Genderism and Transphobia Scale (GTS) that is culturally appropriate for the Indonesian context. The GTS is a measuring tool developed by Hill and Willoughby in 2005 to measure transphobia, which is operationalized by the thoughts, feelings, and behavior that someone has toward transgender and gender-diverse people. While the GTS has been validated across various cultural contexts, results have varied. No validation study has been conducted in Indonesia to date. This research consisted of two quantitative studies using a non-random survey design: Study I involved 265 secondary data sources, and Study II involved 109 primary data sources. In Study I, the Indonesian short version of the GTS (GTS-SV) was developed using Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), Cronbach's alpha reliability testing, and inter-item correlation analysis. Study II evaluated the internal structure of the GTS-SV using the same analytical methods. Findings from both studies supported the validity and reliability of the Indonesian version of the GTS-SV. This scale provides a psychometrically sound instrument for assessing transphobia in Indonesia and may support future research and interventions aimed at fostering greater social acceptance of gender-diverse populations.
