Abstract

The aim of this study was to examine the diagnostic utility of the Indonesian version of Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale Fourth Edition (WAIS-IV-ID) in classifying between typical aging and Alzheimer’s dementia (AD). We administered the WAIS-IV-ID to 47 AD patients (28 females and 19 males; mean age 68 ± 8 years). Severity of dementia was classified into three categories: mild (20 patients), moderate (13 patients), and severe (14 patients). On the basis of receiver operatic characteristic (ROC) analysis, the areas under the curve (AUCs) of each index are as follows: (a) .83, 95% CI [0.738, 0.895] for Full IQ, (b) .88, 95% CI [0.81, 0.94] for Perceptual Reasoning, (c) .79, 95% CI [0.69, 0.86] for Processing Speed, (d) .78, 95% CI [0.69, 0.86] for Verbal Comprehension, and (e) .71, 95% CI [0.61, 0.8] for Working Memory. These AUC values indicate that the WAIS-IV-ID has moderate accuracy in identifying people with AD. This study also raised awareness for the necessity of a standardized process in translating and using cognitive tests, especially in clinical practices.

Abstract

Instagram is one of the social media platforms that allow people to compare themselves with others (social comparison). Seeing the popularity of SNS, this study explores the role of social comparison as a mediator of the influence of Instagram usage intensity on users' self-esteem. The study was conducted using a mediation test technique through the PROCESS program, with 158 participants (25.95% male and 74.05% female) in the age range 18-25 years (M = 21.53, SD = 1.21). The measurement tools used were the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), questions relating to social comparison behavior on Instagram, and the average duration spent using Instagram. The findings show that downward social comparison did not act as a mediator in predicting the influence of Instagram usage on young adults' self-esteem. On the contrary, our findings suggested upward social comparison mediates the relationship between Instagram usage and self-esteem. The implication of this study will be further discussed.

Abstract

This study attempted to apply the hypocrisy induction principle in a real-life setting, a behavioral modification method in which cognitive dissonance was invoked in order to dissuade people from certain undesirable behavior. The aim of this experiment was testing the effect of hypocrisy induction in decreasing plagiarism among students. 136 high school students in their second year were categorized into four groups (hypocrisy, commitment only, mindful only, control), and given a task in which plagiarism was made possible. The tasks submitted by the students were given a plagiarism score using a program that matches them with online articles. Data analysis showed that the hypocrisy induction did not produce a significant effect on plagiarism. 92% of participants committed plagiarism in varying levels, indicating a banality of plagiarism in the school. The implications of these results on plagiarism prevention were discussed. Keywords: plagiarism, hypocrisy induction, cognitive dissonance, experiment

Abstract

The introduction of single-use plastic into modern daily life has created an alarming number of plastic-waste in Indonesia. Government policies and social movements efforts to reduce and manage single-use plastic waste may not be enough. It is therefore important to study the factors related to the inclination of individual citizens to participate in the recycling effort, which is unfortunately still quite low. This study implements the Theory of Planned Behaviour to measure the predictiveness of the antecedent factors; attitude toward recycling single-use plastic, subjective norms, and perceived behavioural control; on the intention to recycle single-use plastic among Generation Z in Jabodetabek. A number of 301 participants were selected through convenience sampling method; then the structural equation modelling was performed using Jamovi to study model fit and causal relationship among the factors. The proposed structural model demonstrated good model fit. The result shows that attitude was the strongest predictor of intention; followed by perceived behavioural control which was also an important predictor of intention at a slightly lesser degree. In contrast, subjective norm was a weak direct predictor of intention, it only contributes significantly to intention via the mediation of attitude toward recycling single-use plastic.

Abstract

Environmentally-friendly behavior is widely studied in Indonesia. However during the last 5 years, there has not yet been a study focusing on testing the psychometric properties of such measure. The main purpose of this study is to adapt an instrument to measure environmentally-friendly behavior and to examine the reliability and validity of the Indonesian translation of the scale. The sample composed of 196 adults with age range 18-25 years old. The original version contained 10 items. The final version of the translated scale contained five items, which showed a reliability coefficients of 0.78. The reasons for the elimination of items in the translated version are discussed. Moreover, the results of the factor analysis confirmed the fit of the model measuring a single factor, namely environmentally-friendly behavior. Ultimately, it was determined that the Indonesian version of the Environmentally-Friendly Behavior is a reliable and valid scale.
