Abstract

Pandanan Beach is a coastal area in West Lombok, Indonesia, where seagrass meadows provide habitat for various species of Echinodermata. However, information on the structure of Echinodermata communities in this area remains limited. This study aimed to analyze the community structure of Echinodermata in the seagrass meadow of Pandanan Beach, Sekotong District, West Lombok, based on species composition, density, species diversity, evenness, and dominance. Data were collected using a combination of line transects and 2 × 5 m quadrats. A total of 16 species comprising four classes Asteroidea, Echinoidea, Ophiuroidea, and Holothuroidea were recorded within the quadrats, with 803 individuals documented. The average density was 3 individuals/m². The highest relative abundances were recorded for Macrophiothrix sp. (33.00%) and Tripneustes gratilla (32.00%). The Shannon–Wiener diversity index (H′ = 1.82) indicated moderate diversity, while the evenness index (E = 0.66) suggested a moderately even distribution of individuals among species. The dominance index (D = 0.23) indicated that no single species strongly dominated the community. Two additional species, Ophiomastix elegans and Diadema savignyi, were observed outside the quadrats and were therefore excluded from the quantitative community analysis. These findings provide baseline information on Echinodermata community structure in the Pandanan Beach seagrass meadow and may support future monitoring and ecosystem management initiatives.
