The new corona virus epidemic (Covid-19) was declared a global pandemic on March 11, 2020 by the World Health Organization (WHO). The Covid-19 mortality rate in Indonesia of 8.9% is the highest number in Southeast Asia. Knowledge of the prevention of the Covid-19 pandemic is very important to prevent the transmission of Covid-19. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of knowledge of parents, teachers, and students of Taman Harapan Islam Medan Elementary School about the prevention of the Covid-19 pandemic. This study used a pretest questionnaire for initial data collection, then counseling was carried out on the prevention of Covid-19 and for the final data collection, a post test questionnaire was used. The results of the Mann Whitney test showed that there were differences in the level of knowledge of parents and children about Covid-19 before and after counseling (P value 0.022) and there were differences in the level of knowledge of parents and children about Covid-19 after counseling (P value 0.002). So it can be concluded that there was an influence on the level of knowledge of parents and children about the spread of Covid-19 infection. Education about preventing the spread of Covid-19 to parents of students, teachers and students of the Taman Harapan Islam Medan Elementary School can provide an understanding of the importance of preventing the spread of Covid-19 and can be passed on to their families and the surrounding environment.

Abstract

Cavity cleanser is needed to remove smear layers and eliminate microbes. In this context, lerak fruit decoction (Sapindus rarak DC) is an important natural material used as an alternative to 2% CHX. The fruit effectively removes smear layers, possesses antimicrobial properties, and shows low surface tension. Therefore, this research aims to analyze the effectiveness of lerak fruit decoction as an alternative material for cavity cleanser material. The laboratory experiment commences with boiling 100 grams of lerak fruit in 100 ml of distilled water to obtain MIC and MBC values with the Dilution and Drop Plates Miles Misra method. The results of ANOVA and LSD tests show that lerak fruit decoction has antibacterial effect with MIC and MBC values of 12.5% and 25%, respectively. This research serves as the foundation for further investigations into lerak fruit decoction, considering the availability, biocompatibility, affordability, and ease of processing. Moreover, it can be concluded that 25% lerak fruit decoction has similar antibacterial ability to 2% CHX against Streptococcus mutans.

Abstract

Oral and dental health problems are still a part of ongoing national health issues in Indonesia.Through endodontic treatment, also called root canal treatment, a decayed tooth can still be preserved and restoredto its original form. It is done if the dental infection has spread into the pulp or the tooth has become nonvital due totrauma or accident. Root morphology is one of the main concerns before performing endodontic treatment. Aperiapical radiograph taken with bisecting and paralleling techniques is the first method in intraoral radiographicexamination to assist dental diagnosis and case management. This research aimed to analyze the mean length ofposterior teeth using an intraoral periapical radiograph and the difference in posterior teeth length in differentvertical angulations. A total of four extracted lower premolars and four extracted lower molars served as samples inthis analysis. They were mounted in an occluder, and a periapical radiograph was obtained using paralleling andbisecting technique with vertical angulation of -20, -15, -10, -5, 0, +5, +10, +15, and +20. The tooth length wasmeasured from the crown's highest point to the tooth apex's lowest end. Data obtained was then calculated usingSPSS. The result showed that the mean length of the lower premolar and molar was longer if the vertical angulationreached +20. Analysis with one-way ANOVA for the difference in the length of premolars, mesial root, and distalroot of lower molars between a direct measurement with digital caliper and measurement on periapical radiographstaken with paralleling technique and bisecting technique in all vertical angulations showed a p-value of 0,05.There were no significant differences in the mean length of lower premolars and the mesial and distal root of lowermolars between direct measurement using a digital caliper and measure on periapical radiographs taken withparalleling technique and bisecting technique in vertical angulations of -15, -10, -5, 0, +5, +10, +15, and +20.KEYWORDS: Vertical angulation, posterior tooth root morphology, periapical radiograph

Abstract

The use of effective and safe irrigation materials is very important to reduce bacterial growth. The purpose of this study was to determine the KHM and KBM values of ethanol extract of pandan wangi leaves with concentrations of 100%, 50%, 25%, 12.5%, 6.25%, 3.125%, 1.56% against Staphylococccus aureus bacteria as an alternative root canal irrigation material. This type of research is experimental with Posttest Only Control Group Design. Thick extract was produced from 1 kg of pandan leaves extracted using 96% ethanol solvent. Then the thick extract is diluted with DMSO and divided into concentrations of 100%, 50%, 25% 12.5%, 6.25%, 3.125%, 1.56% later the ingredients will be tested and replicated 4 times. Determination of KHM and KBM was carried out by dilution method combined with Miles Misra's Drop Plates method. The test results were carried out with Kruskal-Wallis and Pos hoc LSD which obtained significant results of p = 0.001 which means p <0.05, it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of pandan wangi leaves has an antibacterial effect on Staphylococcus aureus with a KHM value at 25% and a KBM value at 50% and when compared to NaOCl, it is found that the 50% extract concentration has a similar ability to NaOCl 2.5% in killing Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.
