Abstract

Background: Scabies is an infectious skin condition that occurs due to an infestation of the small parasitic mite known as Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis. It causes symptoms of itching, which usually worsen during the night and can interfere with sleep. Purpose: The aim of the study was to examine how the incidence of scabies relates to the sleep quality of students at Al Anshor Islamic Boarding School in 2022. Methods: In this study, a quantitative approach was used with a cross-sectional research design. Primary data was collected through the diagnosis of scabies and the use of the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire to measure sleep quality. Bivariate analysis was conducted using the chi-square test for data analysis. The research sample was obtained through the stratified random sampling method. Results: According to the findings, out of 42 participants, 26 students (61.9%) had scabies, with 11 males and 15 females affected. Most of the scabies cases were found in 17-year-old students. The study also found that all scabies sufferers had poor quality sleep. Statistical analysis revealed a significant association between the incidence of scabies and sleep quality, with a p-value of 0.000 and a 95% confidence interval. Conclusion: In conclusion, the study suggests that there is a link between the occurrence of scabies and sleep quality. Therefore, it is important to raise awareness about personal hygiene practices to reduce the spread of scabies.

Abstract

Background: Acne vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory disease of the pilosebaceous unit characterized by clinical features such as comedones, papules, pustules, and nodules that affect social and psychological functions. Foods containing carbohydrates with a high glycemic index can trigger acne vulgaris. Consumption of fatty foods, chocolate, milk, nuts, and cheese can stimulate the recurrence of acne vulgaris. Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between dietary habits and body mass index (BMI) and the incidence of acne vulgaris among students of the Faculty of Medicine of Pattimura University. Methods: This research is an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design. Samples were selected using a proportional stratified random sampling technique with a simple random sampling approach, totaling 89 respondents. Respondents were required to fill out the SQ-FFQ questionnaire and undergo height and weight measurements. Result: Out of 89 respondents, 81% frequently (≥2×/day) consumed carbohydrates 82% often (1×/day) consumed proteins and 71% often (1×/day) consumed reduced-fat. Regarding the quantity of intake, 55% of respondents consumed high carbohydrates per day, 69% consumed high proteins per day, and 24% consumed high fat intake per day. The prevalence of acne vulgaris was 66%p-value <0.05. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between dietary habits based on carbohydrate, protein, and fat intake and the incidence of acne vulgaris. However, there is no significant relationship between BMI and the incidence of acne vulgaris among medical students at Pattimura University.

Abstract

Background: Academic difficulties and lack of adaptation ability of students to their educational environment are often encountered in the early period of their education, including for those enrolled in medical faculties. The academic difficulties encountered could be reflected in the low academic achievement of students. This study aimed to explore the academic difficulties and adaptation processes of students with low academic achievement (GPA <2.50) in the first two years at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Pattimura (UNPATTI), Ambon. Methods: This study used a qualitative method involving 23 informants from the first and second year at the Faculty of Medicine UNPATTI who had low academic achievement (GPA <2.50). Data were collected from March to April 2022 using Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and in-depth interviews (IDI) techniques. Data analysis was performed using the thematic analysis method based on the research objectives. Results: This study shows that the academic difficulties of first-two-year students with low academic achievement are influenced by several factors, including the transition from school to university, tight scheduling, difficulty in understanding lecture material, and the online lecture system due to the COVID-19 pandemic occurred since 2020. These difficulties were also exacerbated by student attitudes, family influence, and the socio-economic environment. Conclusion: It is necessary to identify students who experience academic difficulties as early as possible. Abstract

Scabies is a contagious skin disease caused by a parasitic infestation of the tiny mite Sarcoptes scabiei var hominis in many tropical countries including Indonesia. It is estimated 300 million cases of scabies each year in the world. It can have a significant impact on general health, causing illness and death not only as a direct result of its infestation but also as a result of secondary bacterial infection. To analyze the associated factors of scabies in Boarding School Al Anshor, Ambon in 2022. This study used an observational analytic research method with cross-sectional design. Based on the results of the doctor's diagnosis, 68 students (31.78%) suffered from scabies. Female students dominate scabies sufferers. In addition, it was also found that scabies mostly occurred in students with the age of 15 years. Scabies is dominated by students with a high school education level as many as 41 students. It was found that the factors of gender (p=0,755), age (p=0,089), and education level of students (p=0,074) had no statistical effect on the prevalence of scabies in the Al Anshor boarding school in Ambon. It can be concluded that there is no relationship between gender, age, and education level and scabies.

The sample was taken using total sampling criteria, where population members who met the criteria would be used as a sample. Subsequently, sample of 32 respondents was obtained in this study (84%). Result: The analysis showed that the CHLB level was poor in 22 people (57.9%), and the proportion of pityriasis versicolor incidence was 32 (84.2%). Bivariate analysis showed the significance of the relationship between CHLB and the incidence of pityriasis versicolor with p-value = 0.003. Conclusion: It can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between clean and healthy living behavior and the incidence of pityriasis versicolor in orphanage children in Ambon City. Therefore, it is important to raise awareness about clean and healthy living practices to reduce the incidence of pityriasis versicolor.

Abstract

Background: HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis B can be transmitted during pregnancy, which can cause morbidity and mortality. Efforts to eliminate the transmission of IV, syphilis, and hepatitis B are contained in the Minister of Health Regulation through Antenatal Care services in community health centers by screening and case management of positive pregnant women. The coverage of triple elimination in Eastern Indonesia has not been implemented, especially in Ambon City, while the goal in 2022 is that 100% of pregnant women will be screened and managed to prevent perinatal transmission. Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the implementation of triple elimination screening including coverage, completeness, and infection rates in Ambon City. Methods: This study is a descriptive retrospective analysis based on medical records from four Community Health Centers during the year 2022. Result: Among 1,666 pregnant women, only one of the four centers (25%) met the national screening coverage target. None achieved 100% test completeness. Syphilis showed the highest infection rate (up to 12.2%), while hepatitis B rates were below the national threshold (≤7.1%) in all centers. Conclusion: Ambon City's triple elimination screening implementation has not met national criteria. Enhancing program efficacy requires expanding access to screening services and bolstering health education.
