Abstract

The educational method applied in the Clinical Skill Lab (CSL) is a student-centered, integrated, problem-based, independent, and multi-professional learning approach. There are many limitations obtained in the CSL process that impact students' satisfaction level with the instructor as a guide for students to deepen a skill. This study aims to determine the relationship between the quality of CSL instructor guidance and student satisfaction level at the Faculty of Medicine, Pattimura University. This study uses a quantitative analytical method with a cross-sectional research design. The sample of this study is students of the 2019, 2020, and 2021 batches, totaling 525 respondents. Data collection uses a questionnaire that is shared with students through Google Forms. The results of the univariate analysis showed that the quality of CSL instructor guidance was mainly in the good category (36.2%), and the level of student satisfaction was in the very satisfied category (52.8%). The bivariate analysis results showed a significant relationship between the quality of guidance provided by CSL instructors and the level of student satisfaction at the Faculty of Medicine, Pattimura University of Ambon (p<0.001). It can be concluded that there is a relationship between the level of quality of guidance provided by CSL instructors and the level of student satisfaction at the Faculty of Medicine, Pattimura University of Ambon.

Abstract

Jellyfish are one of the dangerous sea animals and often attack humans through their stings. Jellyfish contain toxins in the form of cardiotoxins, neurotoxins, and myotoxins which when exposed to humans can cause shock and even death. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of knowledge of the community in Luhu Village regarding the initial handling of jellyfish stings. This study is a descriptive quantitative study using a cross sectional design with a community sample of 200 samples. Data collection using questionnaires. The questionnaire data is then processed and analyzed using the SPSS program. The results of the research based on the characteristics of respondents, the most respondents found in this study were female as many as 118 respondents (59%), the age of respondents was adult age as many as 114 respondents (57%), many respondents' occupations were farmers namely 64 respondents (32%), while the level of education that was found was high school which was 113 respondents (52%). Of the 200 respondents, 47 respondents (23.5%) had less knowledge, 133 respondents (56.5%) had sufficient knowledge, and 40 respondents (20%) had good knowledge. Knowledge is very influential on how to handle jellyfish stings early. Therefore, there is a need for socialization and counseling efforts as well as training by health workers to the community in order to increase the level of public knowledge about early handling of jellyfish stings.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Phlebotomy is an essential procedure in healthcare, but it often causes pain due to its invasive nature. Although lidocaine is effective as a local anesthetic, the injectable formulation and low pH may induce pain before the anesthetic effect begins. Therefore, alkalinized lidocaine administered topically is considered a potential alternative to reduce pain and accelerate anesthetic onset. This study is essential to evaluate the effectiveness of this approach. This research aimed to assess the effect of 2.64% alkalinized lidocaine in 70% alcohol, applied topically, on phlebotomy pain levels, measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS).Methods: This study employed a single-masked randomized controlled trial (RCT) with a posttest-only control group design. Samples were obtained via simple random sampling, yielding 20 paired samples from 135 eligible participants. On the first day, participants underwent phlebotomy after the application of alkalinized lidocaine, and on the tenth day, phlebotomy was repeated using 70% alcohol as the control. Pain was measured using the NRS and analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. Results: NRS scores in the control group were significantly higher than those in the experimental group, with a p-value of 0.001.Discussion: Alkalinized lidocaine effectively reduced phlebotomy pain, likely due to an increased non-ionic fraction that enhances tissue penetration and accelerates anesthetic onset. These findings align with existing literature, although generalization remains limited by the small sample size and single-masked design. Conclusion: Topically applied 2.64% alkalinized lidocaine in 70% alcohol is effective in reducing pain associated with phlebotomy.

Abstract

Abstract Background: Cephalgia is a condition where the sufferer will feel a sensation of pain in the head area which sometimes the sensation can spread to the face and neck. Factors that can trigger headaches are poor quality of sleep and stress. Objective: This study was conducted with the aim of the influence of sleep quality and stress on the incidence of headaches in high school students in Ambon City. Methods: This type of research is an analytical observational approach, cross-sectional design with a sample size of 367 and using accidental sampling techniques. The analysis used in this study is univariate and bivariate analysis using the chi-square test. Results: The results of this study obtained the majority of respondents who experienced headaches had poor sleep quality 10.90% and the majority of respondents who experienced headaches had moderate stress levels 8.45%. Based on the results of bivariate analysis using the Chi-square test showed that there was a relationship between sleep quality and headaches, with a value of (p =0.014) and the results of the Fisher test showed that there was a relationship between sleep quality and stress levels, with a value of (p =0.000). Further analysis using multivariate tests showed that stress levels were the most influential variables on headaches with a value of (p =0.000). Conclussion: Thus, this study shows the importance of the role of parents and schools in terms of rest and sleep and problems being faced both at school and at home. Keywords: Headache, Quality of sleep, Stress and Teenagers
