Abstract

The Ciliwung Riverbank area has great potential for educational tourism, but it has not been managed optimally due to a lack of understanding of local history, limited area mapping, and low communication capacity among partners. This community service activity aims to implement participatory communication strategies in developing Ciliwung River Educational Tourism based on historical narratives and geographic mapping. The program partners are river conservation communities and local tourism awareness groups. The implementation method uses the Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) approach through training in historical storytelling, workshops on tourism zoning mapping, and guided simulations of tour guiding. The results of the activities show a significant improvement in the partners’ understanding and skills in packaging tourism attractions. This program also successfully developed an interactive digital map of the Ciliwung eco-tourism route. This participatory communication strategy proved effective in transforming the community’s role into that of active managers while fostering a sense of ownership regarding river conservation. In conclusion, the synergy of dialogic communication, historical reconstruction, and mapping is capable of fostering community autonomy in managing sustainable, community-based eco-tourism.
