Abstract

This research aims to comprehend the development of halal tourism by systematically reviewing articles on halal tourism using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method and qualitative approach. This study explores the topic of halal tourism with the objective of complementing various previous research endeavors. This study reviewed 119 articles using the keywords “halal tourism” and “Muslim-friendly tourism” within the Scopus database. This study revealed four main research streams in halal tourism literature: the definition, concept, opportunities, and implementation of halal tourism. The theoretical contributions of this study include clarifying the concept and definition of halal tourism, classifying research streams in halal tourism, and offering directions for future research through various research questions. The limitations of this study are primarily attributed to the use of the Scopus database as the primary and sole source of data and the limited scope of keywords employed.

Abstract

Rapid infrastructure development in the transportation sector has significant implications for land acquisition, including residential and agricultural land. The conversion of agricultural land poses challenges by reducing green open spaces and disrupting the socioeconomic conditions of affected communities, particularly farming households. This study examines the socioeconomic consequences of land acquisition in the Yogyakarta toll road construction, focusing on changes in employment, agricultural productivity, and asset ownership. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire survey targeting affected households, selected using purposive sampling. The analysis employs descriptive statistics to identify patterns and trends. This study also performs correlation tests to examine relationships between variables and communities' willingness to release land. The findings indicate that 22% of respondents lost their jobs due to land acquisition, and 26% have not yet secured alternative employment, highlighting economic adaptation challenges. Additionally, 44% of respondents reported that their acquired land was agricultural. It leads to a decrease in productivity and income for farmers. Land conversion has also altered asset ownership, particularly for farmers whose livelihoods depended on their land. The study contributes empirical evidence on the socioeconomic impacts of large-scale infrastructure projects, emphasizing employment challenges, land use changes, and financial stability. The correlation analysis reveals a weak but statistically significant relationship between improved road access and residents' willingness to relinquish land. These findings provide valuable insights for policymakers, infrastructure planners, and stakeholders to develop mitigation strategies, including job creation programs, financial support for displaced farmers, and policies ensuring sustainable land management and community engagement in future land acquisition processes.

Abstract

This study examines the weaknesses of the customs supervision system in the Batam Free Trade Zone (FTZ) and its implications for Indonesia’s domestic market. As a free trade area with a high volume of imported goods, Batam FTZ contains structural vulnerabilities that may be exploited for smuggling and the evasion of fiscal obligations. Using a qualitative approach, this research draws on interviews with customs officers, business operators, and customs service providers, complemented by a literature review to identify risk factors and supervisory gaps. The findings indicate that shortcomings in the supervision system stem from limited human resources, inadequate inter-agency data integration, the use of small and difficult-to-monitor ports, and significant information asymmetry between authorities and economic actors. These gaps contribute to increased risks of fiscal leakage and the circulation of unmonitored goods in the domestic market, which can disrupt price stability and fair competition. The study concludes that customs supervision in the Batam FTZ remains suboptimal and requires strengthened institutional capacity, enhanced internal controls, and the development of real-time, technology-based monitoring systems to reduce violations and maintain domestic market stability.
