Abstract

The purpose of this service activity is toincreasing interest in reading, enthusiasm for learning, understanding in recognizing letters and improving the reading and counting skills of the Yeflio village children. This activity was carried out in Yeflio village, Mayamuk District, Sorong Regency, Southwest Papua Province. Participants who took part in this community service activity were children of pre-school age, elementary school age, and junior high school. Participants in this community service activity totaled 50 children, with 33 girls and 27 boys. The implementation of this activity was carried out using several reading guidebooks and arithmetic books as well as reading, writing and arithmetic learning media that were made. The activities were carried out for 16 meetings from 23 August to 15 September 2022 every Monday to Thursday at 15.00. 00 to 17.00 WIT. The learning process is carried out both classically and in groups according to the abilities of the participants. Data collection was carried out by means of observation and tests, data on the results of activities were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results of the community service activities concluded that there was an increase in literacy skills in reading, writing, arithmetic (SICALISTUNG) in activity participants with details of an increase in the number of participants who already knew letters by 4 out of 8 participants or 8%, and fluent reading by 16 people or 32%. In writing literacy, the increase occurred in participants who wrote fluently by 4 people (16.7%) and participants who could not write decreased to only 1 person out of 6 people or 8.3%. In the numeracy literacy program there was also an increase in the average score from 14 to 42 in the addition and subtraction program.

Abstract

This study aimed at identifying how did the improvement in the problem-solving ability of learners work in improving the ability of learners in constructing the materials obtained after the development of Learner’s Worksheet in classroom learning. This research used Research and Development (R & D) approach using the Kemp model. Data collections were done through problem-solving tests, validation analysis, and correlation test. The indicators of this study included the effectiveness of the developed learner’s worksheet and the increased ability of problem-solving that was seen from the learning results obtained. The results showed that the average increase in the learning outcomes of the learners was equal to 79.44 with a difference in the scores of learning outcomes where tcount = 32.806 > ttable = 1.734, with a significance level of 0.000. Also, the improvement of learning outcomes on the response of learners gives significant influence with a score of 0.338 with a significance level of 0.085. Based on these results the development, the problem-solving oriented students’ worksheet is declared valid and effective based on the results of validation tests by experts and the results of the implementation of classroom learning. These results impact the students’ learning outcomes. It is expected that in the learning process with different materials, the worksheet can be applied in improving students' ability to solve problems. It is suggested for a research to collaborate the worksheet with other models and, media that can be linked to the problem-solving aspects, so that in its implementation, students have the confidence to succeed, be more active, and interested in problem-solving given

Abstract

Tidak dapat dipungkiri bahwa matematika menjadi tantangan bagi sebagian peserta didik, terutama di Program Studi Pendidikan Matematika. Kesulitan tersebut mencakup pemahaman masalah, penyelesaian soal yang dianggap sulit, dan ketidaknyamanan terhadap rumus-rumus kompleks. Fokus utama penelitian ini adalah mata kuliah Statistik dan pengolahan data di Program Studi Pendidikan Matematika, yang dianggap sebagai landasan untuk pemahaman matematika lebih lanjut. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dan melibatkan mahasiswa semester II Program Studi Pendidikan Matematika di Universitas Muhammadiyah Sorong. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara, dan tes, dengan tujuan mengidentifikasi kesalahan belajar mahasiswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar mahasiswa mengalami kesulitan belajar, terutama dalam menyelesaikan soal statistik dan pengolahan data. Analisis kesalahan mahasiswa dibagi menjadi empat jenis, yaitu kesalahan tidak menjawab, kesalahan operasi, kesalahan konsep, dan kesalahan data. Berdasarkan tingkat kemampuan, sejumlah mahasiswa ditempatkan dalam kategori rendah, sedang, dan tinggi. Wawancara dengan mahasiswa menunjukkan bahwa kesalahan belajar disebabkan oleh kurangnya pemahaman terhadap rumus, kesalahan operasi dalam perhitungan, dan kesalahan dalam menentukan serta menggunakan rumus. Faktor penyebab melibatkan kurangnya pemahaman materi, keinginan untuk cepat menyelesaikan soal, dan kurangnya kesadaran terhadap pentingnya rumus dalam menyelesaikan masalah matematika. Penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi untuk meningkatkan pemahaman tentang kesalahan belajar mahasiswa dalam matematika, khususnya pada mata kuliah Statistik dan pengolahan data. Implikasi dari penelitian ini dapat digunakan untuk menyusun strategi pembelajaran yang lebih efektif dan membantu mahasiswa mengatasi kesulitan belajar dalam bidang matematika.

Abstract

This study aims to describe students' critical thinking ability (CTA) in solving mathematical problems on the topic of fractions based on cognitive styles. The research was conducted using a descriptive qualitative method, involving two students from SMPN 2 Takalar as subjects. The instruments used were the GEFT test, a critical thinking ability test, and interview guidelines. The results of the study showed that overall, FI students demonstrated better abilities in analysis, evaluation, and inference compared to FD students. Although both had equal abilities in interpretation, FI students stood out in overall critical thinking ability based on the given indicators. Additionally, FD students were less capable of making conjectures, formulating, and providing reasons for solutions. However, they performed well in manipulating mathematics. Moreover, FD students were unable to draw conclusions and check the validity of arguments. On the other hand, FI students were able to make conjectures, manipulate mathematics, draw conclusions from statements, and check the validity of arguments. Cognitive style is important in critical thinking activities for learning fractions; therefore, students should be given learning opportunities to not remain static in their current cognitive style.
