Abstract

AbstractPesantren is a unique instrument of Indonesian educational system.Environmental adaptations enhance pesantren to modify institutionalchange and development. Therefore, this research will explore howpesantren widen the curriculum in term of enterprenurship. This studywas conducted in pesantren Roudhotul Khuffadz. It is located in Sorong,West Papua province, eastern part of Indonesia. In depth-interview andnon participant observation were attended in collecting data. In term ofefforts to identify data validity, the research was extended from threemonths to six months. The study shows that the pesantren RoudhotulKhuffadz was presented many examinations and discussion in developingits curriculum. In addition, they decided to empower curriculum withentrepreneurship aspects. This decision was concluded to extend localneeds and students skills in enlarging their opportunities after schoolage. Finally, this study recommends identifying socio-cultural inpesantren environment in order to understand curriculum improvement.

Abstract

Islamic education is not only related to contents, methods, and practices. Meanwhile, the environment of educators and learners is also worth to investigate. Every family has a view according to their circumstances. Hence, an identification of the educational environment is needed to provide adaptation for the interests of Islamic education. This research was conducted using a qualitative approach in Bandung, West Java. Interviews and non-participant observations were conducted during data collection. The results showed that there was a need for Muslims in connection with Islamic education, especially in urban areas. Parents worried if their children were not equipped with religious knowledge during the process of adaptation and socialization. Furthermore, the Muslim family also requiredchildren to learn reading and writing the Quran from an early age. This was intended to equip them with the skills of reading the holy Qur’an. Finally, it also described the eight social skills that Muslim families trained for their sons and daughters. إن التربية الإسلامية لا تتعلق فقط بالمادة والطريقة والتطبيق. والعكس إن بيئة المعلمين والمتعلّمين أصبحت ظروفا خاصة. وفي جانب آخر، لكل أسرة رؤيتها بما لها من الظروف والأحوال المحيطة بها. لذا يُحتاج إلى تحديد وتعيين البيئة التربوية لأجل التكيّف لمهمّة التربية الإسلامية. عُقد هذا البحث بالمدخل الكيفي في مدينة باندونج جاوة الغربية. ولجمع البيانات يُستخدم أسلوب المقابلة الشخصية والملاحظة بدون المشاركة. دلّت هذه المقالة أن هناك حاجة للمسلمين إلى التربية الإسلامية وخاصة في المدن. وثمة المخاوف من قبل الآباء والأمهات حين لا يُزوّد الأبناء بالتعاليم الدينية خلال تكيّفهم وتعاملهم بغيرهم. وناقشت هذه المقالة كذلك المفاهيم التربوية التي تمسّكت بها الأسرة. وليس هذا فقط، فإن الأسرة المسلمة أوجبت كل أبنائها تعلّم قراءة القرآن وكتابته في سنّ مبكّر. والهدف منه تزويد الأبناء بمهارة قراءة القرآن. وعرضت هذه المقالة كذلك ثماني مهارات اجتماعية دربتها الأسر المسلمة على جميع أبنائها وبناتها.

Abstract

Arabic has a special characters and positions compare to bahasa Indonesia as the mother tongue of students. These conditions are prospect to create joyful learning and teaching. Therefore, through the teaching and learning it is the opportunity to accelerate the process of understanding source language. This research was conducted in higher education of north Sulawesi in Manado. Non-participant observation and in-depth interview were conducted to collect data. Four months of research was studied from May to September of 2016. There was three circles of focus group discussion in validating data for triangulation. This article shows that the learning material consists of two categories language competency and religious teaching. This study illustrate that learning material was integrated to teaching of Islam. Religious material used to developed interactive substantial discussion and the medium of conversation is the Arabic. Additional activities and class hour was programed to enhance student chance to learn and practice outside formal classroom. There were some instructors were provided to maintain student training for couple weeks. This research discusses that in the field of Arabic language learning emphasize constructing learning opportunity environments, it is important which contents are included and it is also students’ great interest how these contents are presented. Lecturers and instructors tried to provide instructional explanations. Furthermore, they communicate and demonstrate prior knowledge and student motivation in determining learning outcomes. The learning provides student opportunity to acquire conceptual knowledge and language competency. The article concludes by considering how embodied language material learning to religious content is the way to speed up two subject in one teaching for curriculum enhancement.

Abstract

Pesantren (boarding school) in Indonesia educational system proofs a significant contribution. They participate in enhancing teaching and learning and extending the processes of acquiring knowledge with the spirit of Islam. These activities spread out through the nation-wide, include some part of Papua island. Therefore, it is a need to explore the practice of Islamic education, expecially muslim minority. In addition, the religious based institution will have less culture support and different environment from other majority. A qualitative approach was employed to conduct this research. In-depth inteview and non-participant observation were implemented during data collection. There are four pesantrens were observed, they are Pesantren Nurul Yaqin, Pesantren Roudhotul Khuffadz, Pesantren Minhajut Tholibin, and Pesantren Hidayatullah. All the site are located in Sorong regency. Research findings shows that in elaborating learning process in pesantren to accelerate students’ skill is impelementation of entrepeneurship. After school duration, extracurriculer is running to maintain the learning outside classroom. The students still have opportunity to learn not only in the classroom but also they will participate in the real space. The extension of classroom to the field is an effort to relate theoretical attainment to skills development. Those institutions executed this kind of program due to limited time in practice for subject matter on time allocation. Finally, pesantren is not solely the place to learn religion. Management board tried to encourage students in participating the entrpreneurship based various activities to complement students’ skills after graduating from the Islamic school.

Abstract

ABSTRACT: “Pesantren”, or Islamic boarding school, is a part of Islamic education institution growing in Indonesian culture and tradition. Arabic was chosen, because it is the premier language of Islamic religion and be started to expand Muslims capacity through training. This phenomenon is interesting to explore since “pesantren” entertain to charter foreign language as compulsory subject to master. This paper explores how “pesantren” conduct its Arabic learning and construct students’ skill in acquiring the language. This research was conducted in West Papua Province. All the regency and city were observed, excluded Wondama Regency, because the institutions there were not implemented Gontor Model as a source to teach Arabic. In-depth interview and non-participant observation were employed in collecting data. Research findings show that in implementing language learning, first step to do was curriculum enhancement and tried to adapt some model in delivering the subject. Teachers as the facilitator command the process of learning and tried the best effort to maintain practice in the school and “pesantren” neighborhood. The Foundation Management Board provided books and learning media to expand students’ language skills. The main media is environment, its existence strengthen communication exercise, and the same time to allocate students’ drill in understanding language context. Finally, the researchers recommend further research to other foreign languages. Pesantren merupakan bagian dari institusi pendidikan yang tumbuh dalam tradisi dan budaya Indonesia. Bahasa Arab dipilih, karena merupakan bahasa utama agama Islam dan dimulai dari upaya untuk mengembangkan kapasitas Muslim melalui pendidikan. Fenomena ini menarik untuk dieksplorasi dimana pesantren menjadikan bahasa asing sebagai pelajaran yang harus dikuasai. Artikel ini mengkaji bagaimana pesantren menjalankan pembelajaran bahasa Arab dan mengkonstruksi keterampilan santri dalam menguasai bahasa yang diajarkan. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Provinsi Papua Barat. Semua kota dan kabupaten diamati, kecuali Kabupaten Wondama, karena lembaga pendidikan di sana tidak mengadopsi Model Gontor sebagai sistem pengajaran bahasa Arab. Wawancara mendalam dan pengamatan tak berpartisipasi digunakan dalam mengumpulkan data. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa ada beberapa tahapan dalam penerapan pembelajaran bahasa, yang dimulai dari pengayaan kurikulum dan berupaya untuk mengadaptasi beberapa model yang sudah dilaksanakan dalam mengajarkan mata pelajaran. Guru merupakan fasilitator yang menjadi pemandu dalam pelaksanaan pembelajaran dan berusaha dengan cara terbaik untuk mempertahankan pelaksanaan praktek di sekolah dan lingkungan pesantren. Pengurus Yayasan menyediakan buku dan media pembelajaran untuk mendorong penguasaan keterampilan berbahasa santri. Media utama adalah lingkungan, keberadaannya memperkuat latihan berkomunikasi, dan pada saat yang sama menyediakan kesempatan bagi siswa untuk berlatih dalam memahami konteks berbahasa. Akhirnya, peneliti merekomendasikan penelitian lanjutan mengenai bahasa asing lainnya. Abstract

ABSTRAK: Pendidikan multikultural merupakan istilah yang popular untuk menjelaskan pendidikan keberagaman. Penelitian ini berusaha menjelaskan berbagai praktek dan proses pembelajaran di pesantren yang diciptakan untuk mengurangi praduga dan diskriminasi. Selain itu program tersebut juga dijalankan untuk melakukan kesempatan yang sama dan keadilan sosial bagi semua siswa. Akhirnya, penelitian ini berusaha menjelaskan tentang kurikulum yang disusun diseputar konsep-konsep dasar bagi setiap suku dari beberapa kelompok yang berbeda. Pesantren yang berlokasi di Sulawesi Selatan dijadikan fokus penelitian, denga design penelitian yang bersifat kualitatif. Data dikumpulkan dari hasil wawancara dan observasi di lapangan. Penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa pemegang wewenang di pesantren bekerja keras untuk menyatukan visi dan berbagai praktek yang berhubungan dengan konsep multikulturalisme dimana para guru menggunakan contoh-contoh dan isi dari beragam budaya untuk menggambarkan prinsip-prinsip dan teori-teori utama dalam pelajaran dan ilmu mereka. Maka para guru dapat memahami pendidikan multikultural sebagai pendekatan isi dalam kasus pengajaran bahasa Arab. Adalah pesantren dengan budaya dan organisasinya yang mengembangkan persamaan kelas sosial, ras dan gender, sejalan dengan konsep pendidikan multikulturalisme.Kata-kata kunci: pendidikan multikultur, keadilan dan persamaan, serta peranan pesantren.  About the Authors: Ismail Suardi Wekke is a Student of International Program Fellowship of Ford Foundation in the Faculty of Education, National University of Malaysia (UKM). Abstract

ABSTRACT: This study is a qualitative research into the implementation of integrated Islamic education in Brunei Darussalam. The Pioneer Schools (Sekolah Rintis) and the Thoughtful School (Sekolah Hatiminda) are solid evidence that Brunei has decided to settle on the integrated Islamic education for its future generations. Some problems surface later which are thought to impede a fully successful implementation of the integrated Islamic education in the country. This work aims to examine the extent of the implementation of the integrated Islamic education system and to evaluate whether there is an evident need to revise the current system. Abstract

ABSTRACT: Manado in North Sulawesi, Indonesia is a typical area where Muslim and Christian population are living together in the community. Muslim minority circumstance reflects a condition to contribute. Even though they life in particular situation. Therefore, it is a need to explore Muslim minority formation in some part of Indonesia. The article identifies areas of Muslim minority, in which they launched a learning body for educating Muslim. The research was focused in Manado. In-depth-interview and non-participant observation was conducted to collect data. Two bathcs of data collection was directed during two consecutive years research. Last part of research was completed through three focus group discussions. Furthermore, this article shows that Muslim minority in Manado already establish an excellent educational organization. Started from Al-Qur’an festival, Muslim tried to complement the event with education institution. The community tried to promote education chance and opportunity in expanding community elaboration. Nowadays, the school is not only to educate Muslim society but also it is a part to encounters with surrounding area. In addition, the practices also communicate to local counterpart in providing support and maintenance. Finally, this article concludes that Muslim minority in Manado provide valuable portrait to pay attention on surrounding area. Abstract

 ABSTRAKSI: Kajian ini bertujuan mengelaborasi peranan organisasi HMI (Himpunan Mahasiswa Islam) dan sumbangannya dalam pemikiran dan dakwah Islam di Indonesia. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan sejarah dan kajian sosial-politik. Hasil kajian menunjukan bahwa peranan dan sumbangan HMI yang paling signifikan, di tengah-tengah gerakan Islam Indonesia, adalah pembaharuan pemikiran Islam yang bertujuan untuk membangun nilai-nilai baru dalam doktrin Islam. HMI merupakan organisasi mahasiswa Islam yang tertua dan terbesar di Indonesia, yang lahir pada tahun 1947, dalam suasana revolusi kemerdekaan Indonesia. Karena HMI merupakan organisasi yang tumbuh dan berkembang dalam lanskap sosial dan politik Indonesia, maka HMI merupakan organisasi yang berbeda dengan yang ada di negara-negara Islam lainnya di dunia. Dari pengalaman dan perjalanan sejarahnya yang panjang dan penuh dinamika itu, HMI memiliki corak pemikiran dan dakwah yang khas, yakni usaha untuk memadukan nilai-nilai ke-Islam-an dan ke-Indonesia-an dalam suatu kerangka pikir dan paradigma, yang bisa dirumuskan dalam visi, misi, dan program yang nyata. Berdasarkan kerangka pikir dan paradigma khas tersebut, yaitu mengintegrasikan nilai-nilai ke-Islam-an dan ke-Indonesia-an, dengan sifat independensinya, maka HMI bisa memberikan solusi terhadap masalah dan kondisi masyarakat Indonesia yang sangat beragam dan dinamis ini. KATA KUNCI: Mahasiswa Islam; Gerakan Dakwah; Ke-Islam-an dan Ke-Indonesia-an; Masyarakat Muslim Indonesia; Modern, Sejahtera, dan Beradab. ABSTRACT: “The Movement of Islamic Students Association in Thinking and Preaching in Indonesia”. This study aims to elaborate on the role of the organization of HMI (Islamic Students Association) and the contribution to the Islamic thinking and preaching in Indonesia. The methods of research used are the historical approach and socio-political study. The study results indicate that the role and contribution most significantly of HMI, in the mainstream of Indonesian Islamic movement, is the renewal of Islamic thought which aims to establish new values in Islamic doctrine. HMI is an Islamic students associations oldest and largest in Indonesia, established in 1947, a period of Indonesian revolution. Due to HMI is an organization grow and thrive in the social and political landscape of Indonesia, so the HMI is an organization that is different from those in other Islamic countries in the world. From its experiences and long journey history that full of dynamics, HMI has had the typical patterns of thinking and preaching, that is an attempt to integrate the values of Islam and the Indonesian-ness within a framework of thinking and paradigms, which can be formulated in the vision, mission, and a real program. Abstract

Higher education is a part of society, therefore Islamic university also as part of their environment. This article would identify how Islamic higher education accelerates their institution to give students any opportunity to learn religious subject outside classroom. They have enough time to learn in non-formal situation. Data was collected through the brief in-depth interview and non-participant observation. Islamic State College of Sorong is the main source of data. Focus group discussion was the technique to verify data for triangulation. This article discusses two main activity, they are a celebration of Prophet Muhammad and the moment of first time reciting Quran. Finally, this article concludes that the institution in higher learning activity play two roles, the university itself, and the same time they are the religious body of the society.
