Abstract

Innovation in Batik motif design using digital technology is driven by the rapid advancement of technology that must be adjusted to simplify the process of making Batik designs. The use of digital techniques in motif design not only facilitates motif duplication but also helps in determining the color palette for Batik patterns. In addition, Batik designs can be implemented into clothing mock-ups or other products. This study uses a creative creation method, where the process begins with an observational study of objects as a source of inspiration for Batik motifs. Furthermore, design development is carried out using CorelDraw software, followed by color simulation, and the final stage is the creation of a mock-up of the Batik motif design on the finished product. The results of the development show that the use of digital techniques significantly streamlines and accelerates the process of developing Batik motifs, offering greater efficiency and flexibility in design implementation.

Abstract

Abstract

Communication becomes a powerful means of cultural diffusion and an alternative choice for the community. Recently, modern society has been observed to be highly consumeristic, where the image becomes a consideration in the decision-making to purchase. Visual design on the packaging has an effect on consumers' purchasing decisions. The traditional woven bamboo packaging (besek) has an exciting phenomenon in modern society today (urban). The qualitative approach was used with narrative construction or textual descriptions of phenomena. Formal analysis and sign interpretation were used to answer research problems. The formal analytical method was used to identify the way syntagmatic shapes produce paradigms in meaning. The alternative modern packaging that follows the recent developments does not significantly replace the presence of besek as a medium to come to the collective memory of the target audience. Besek is a small part of existing past cultural products that compete with the modern packaging paradigm. Every past cultural product that successfully maintains its existence enables the establishment of an image and becomes a bridge to collective memory in the contemporary era

Abstract

Rock Climbing is becoming increasingly popular among university students. The Jonggring Salaka Nature Lovers’ Student Rock Climbing Division of Malang State University actively delegates athletes to various competitions. The division's existence is less well-known to the public. This occurs due to the lack of an independent visual identity. This study aims to design a representative visual identity as a promotional medium for the division. The researcher used a descriptive qualitative approach. The design process applies the Alina Wheeler model. This model includes research, strategy, identity design, contact points, and asset management stages. The researcher collected data through observation, interviews, and literature studies. The researcher used a SWOT analysis to formulate a design strategy. The design yields a new visual identity comprising a logo, Sport Lane typography, and a color palette of red, black, and white. The logo combines the shapes of Mount Semeru, a carabiner, a carmantel rope, and a star. The researcher applied these visual elements to various promotional media. These media include jerseys, water bottles, stickers, identity cards, and social media templates. The researcher also compiled a visual identity guidebook to maintain design consistency. This visual identity serves as a strategic solution to enhance the community's image and presence in the future.
