Abstract

International trade is a simple transaction that involves buying and selling goods between entrepreneurs from different countries, currencies, times, and cultures. International trade carries greater risks than domestic trade, but it is an essential part of the global economy. Free on Board (FOB) shipping is the most common method for managing export risks. FOB can be understood as an agreement established in a contract for cross-border trade using waterways and inland routes. The objectives of this research are: 1) describing the fluctuation of export transactions with FOB based on major ports; 2) analyzing the export risk level with FOB based on provincial major ports; 3) describing the fluctuation of Indonesia's export transactions with FOB based on destination countries; 4) analyzing Indonesia's export risk level with FOB based on destination countries. This research utilizes a quantitative design with a literature study approach. The secondary data used is a time series from 2016–2022. Export risk is measured by the coefficient of variation (CV). Fluctuations in export transactions based on FOB from main ports tend to increase. Exports from 25 ports with a CV value below 050 indicate low export risk. Meanwhile, 28 ports with a CV value above 05 indicate high export risk. The value of ASEAN exports has increased, although there was a decrease in 2019 and 2020. Export values remain relatively stable in the United States, European Union, Africa, and Australia. An overall analysis of destination countries shows that CV values below 050 indicate low export risk.

Abstract

Abstract

The farmer exchange rate provides an overview of the welfare of farmers through a comparison of revenues and costs incurred by farmers. The exchange rate of farmers, especially red chili plants is a horticultural commodity that often experiences price fluctuations. Red chili is categorized into the group forming inflation in Indonesia (volatile food). The purpose of this study is to determine the development of the exchange rate of red chili farmers in 2012-2021 and determine the factors that affect the exchange rate of red chili farmers in West Java Province. The research method used is quantitative descriptive analysis. Data collection methods through literature studies and types of data are secondary from the Central Statistics Agency, Pusdatin, and relevant research journals. Data processing using multiple linear regression analysis with the help of Microsoft Excel and SPSS 17.0 applications. The results showed simultaneously and partially that the variables of harvest area, amount of production, fertilizer costs, and producer prices had a significant effect on the exchange rate of red chili farmers in West Java Province. The variable area of harvest and producer price are negative, while the variable amount of production and cost of fertilizer are positive.

Abstract

Potatoes are a vital horticultural commodity in Indonesia, serving as an alternative staple food and an industrial raw material. However, potato farming in Sumber Brantas Village, Bumiaji District, Batu City faces inefficiencies due to excessive use of inputs, such as seeds and fertilizers, and financial constraints arising from rising input costs. This study aims to evaluate the efficiency and optimization of production inputs in potato farming to enhance productivity and sustainability. A quantitative research approach was employed, with data collected from 50 potato farmers through interviews and questionnaires. The Cobb-Douglas production function was used to analyze input efficiency, supported by classical assumption tests, including multicollinearity, heteroscedasticity, and normality tests. The findings reveal that land area and seeds are relatively efficient inputs, while fertilizers, pesticides, and labor remain inefficient and underutilized. Further optimization analysis showed that none of the production inputs had achieved optimal levels, indicating overuse in some cases and underutilization in others. These inefficiencies significantly limit production outcomes. The study concludes that targeted interventions are required to optimize resource allocation and improve input management. These insights provide valuable recommendations for farmers and policymakers to enhance agricultural productivity and economic viability in the region, contributing to more sustainable potato farming practices.

Abstract

This study investigates the financial feasibility of large red chili (Capsicum annum L.) farming during both the rainy and dry seasons in Tawangargo, Karangploso, Malang, Indonesia. Many farmers in this region do not thoroughly evaluate the costs and revenues associated with their farming practices, leading to uncertainty regarding the financial feasibility of large red chili farming. The primary aim of this research is to assess the financial feasibility of such farming practices across seasons and to compare their financial viability. The research employs the analysis of the Revenue-to-Cost (R/C) ratio and a paired sample t-test to evaluate the financial feasibility of large red chili farming. Our findings reveal that large red chili farming in both rainy and dry seasons is financially feasible. The R/C ratio for the rainy season is 2.12, and for the dry season, it is 1.51, both of which exceed the critical threshold of 1, indicating the financial feasibility of farming and developing large red chili in this region. The results of the Paired Sample Test demonstrate significant differences in the financial feasibility of large red chili farming between the rainy and dry seasons in Tawangargo, Karangploso, Malang, Indonesia. The average of income per-hectare for large red chili farming is IDR 101,573,764 during the rainy season and IDR 45,393,331 during the dry season.
