Abstract

Background: E. coli contamination of clean water has had a widespread impact, especially on human health. Aims: To determine the bacteriological content of clean water in Bale Village. Methods: This was a descriptive observational study conducted in July 2021. Primary data was obtained from E-Coli testing results at the Environmental Health Department Laboratory of the Palu Health Polytechnic using the MPN (Most Probable Number) method, and observations of clean water facilities. The population size was 386 clean water facilities, with a sample of 24 clean water samples. The sampling technique used the Simple Random Sampling method. Furthermore, the data was analyzed by comparing the laboratory test results with the 2017 Ministry of Health Regulation. Results: Only 1 water source met the requirements and no E.Coli was found, namely in Hamlet 2, while water sources in other hamlets were contaminated with E.Coli ranging from 4 - 2400 MPN/100 ml, and some even exceeded that number. Conclusion: The majority of clean water sources in Bale Village do not meet the requirements. Out of 24 clean water samples tested, only 1 sample met the requirements, namely the clean water sample from the water pump.

Abstract

Background: Worm infections caused by Soil-Transmitted Helminths (STH), primarily from the Nematoda class, remain a public health concern. In 2023, the Mass Drug Administration (MDA) report in Wani Village, Tanantovea District, Donggala Regency, Central Sulawesi, noted that out of 3,739 targeted children aged 1–12 years, 3,704 received deworming treatment—achieving a 97% coverage rate. Among them, 1.33% were kindergarten-aged children. Aims: This study aimed to determine the presence of worm eggs in the feces of children attending Pembina Kindergarten in Wani I Village. Methods: A descriptive study was conducted from May 15 to June 7, 2024, involving all 36 children at the kindergarten. Stool samples were examined using the centrifugation method to identify STH eggs. Data were analyzed and presented in tabular form.  Results: No worm eggs were found in any of the samples. Conclusion: Although no infections were detected, preventive measures remain essential. Teachers should continue encouraging biannual deworming, regular handwashing, consistent toilet use, and the use of footwear during outdoor activities to reduce future infection risks.

Abstract

Hypertension and metabolic diseases such as diabetes, high cholesterol, and uric acid are common health issues in society. These conditions often present no symptoms in their early stages, making early detection a crucial step in preventing more severe complications. This community service activity aimed to raise awareness of the importance of early detection of hypertension and metabolic diseases through educational outreach and free health check-ups. The methods included educational counseling and health screenings, such as blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol, uric acid, body weight, and body mass index measurements. The results indicated high community enthusiasm for participating in health check-ups and receiving health education. Most participants benefited directly by gaining an understanding of their health conditions and the recommended follow-up actions. This activity successfully increased community awareness of the importance of early detection and prevention of non-communicable diseases.

Abstract

The widespread use of social media among adolescents has significantly affected their social behavior and mental health. This study aimed to analyze the influence of social media use on bullying behavior and its impact on the mental health of junior high school students in Soppeng Regency. Using a quantitative quasi-experimental design (pretest–posttest), data were collected from 521 respondents through questionnaires, interviews, observations, and focus group discussions. Statistical analyses included descriptive tests, t-test, Chi-Square, and binary logistic regression. The results showed that 79.2% of students frequently or very frequently used social media, 35.9% had been victims of bullying, and 76.4% had acted as perpetrators. A total of 63.8% reported negative mental health impacts. The t-test revealed significant differences in mental health between students affected and unaffected by social media (p = 0.001). Regression analysis identified age, gender, and bullying experience as factors significantly influencing mental health (p < 0.05). These findings suggest that social media indirectly affects students’ mental health through bullying experiences. Therefore, school-based prevention and counseling programs are needed to strengthen adolescents’ psychological resilience
