Abstract

This qualitative case study investigates how unethical AI tool usage contributes to the regression of academic writing skills among 20 English students at PSDKU Aru, Maluku, Indonesia. Data was collected through writing samples, plagiarism reports, interviews, and longitudinal grade tracking over six months. Findings reveal that students engaging in uncritical copy-pasting of AI-generated content (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini) exhibited significant declines in paragraph coherence, argumentative depth, and syntactic complexity. Key regression patterns included fragmented topic sentences, incohesive supporting evidence, and formulaic conclusions. The study highlights ethical and pedagogical implications, advocating for AI literacy integration and scaffolded writing assessments. Recommendations emphasize proactive policy reforms and metacognitive training to mitigate skill atrophy.

Abstract

The 2025 Netflix film K-Pop: Demon Hunters and its chart-topping single “Golden” mark a new milestone in the globalization of the Korean Wave, exemplifying Western media’s creation of authentic, hybrid K-pop content for a global audience. This study seeks to elucidate the linguistic strategies underlying the song’s success by identifying, classifying, and analyzing the illocutionary speech acts in its lyrics. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach and Searle’s five categories of illocutionary acts, the research conducts a close reading to determine the pragmatic function of each utterance. The findings show that, of the 39 utterances analyzed, expressive acts are the most prevalent type (44%), followed by commissive acts (36%). Representative (13%), directive (5%), and declarative (3%) acts appear more sparingly to establish the narrative and mark pivotal shifts. The dominance of expressive and commissive acts suggests that the song’s communicative force derives primarily from articulating psychological states and committing to future actions, rather than merely recounting events. This linguistic emphasis on emotional transformation and empowerment is central to how “Golden” convincingly performs an authentic K-pop identity despite its English lyrics and Western production.

Abstract

This study explores the perspectives of primary school English teachers on multicultural education within the context of Eastern Indonesia, particularly in Ambon City. The research aims to understand how teachers perceive the importance, relevance, and challenges of multicultural education in shaping students’ social awareness and intercultural competence. Using a descriptive qualitative design, data were collected from six primary school English teachers through a ten-item questionnaire consisting of two categories: conceptual understanding and perceived importance of multicultural education. The results reveal that all participants demonstrated a high level of conceptual awareness regarding the value of multicultural education in fostering tolerance, respect, and social harmony among students. However, variations emerged in teachers’ readiness to implement multicultural-based approaches in classroom instruction. While most teachers agreed that integrating local cultural content is essential, a few expressed uncertainty due to limited pedagogical resources and institutional support. Overall, the findings highlight that teachers’ perspectives are shaped not only by theoretical understanding but also by contextual realities of teaching in a culturally diverse environment. The study concludes that strengthening teachers’ professional capacity and institutional support is crucial to bridge the gap between understanding and practice. These findings offer valuable insights for future research and policy development in multicultural and English language education across Indonesia’s diverse regions.
