Abstract

TOEFL Prediction score can also be seen as the benchmark of English Language Competence of the institution. This study looked into the types of preparation and the length of preparation and TOEFL Preparation Score result. The data were collected from 2 sources: online survey and the score compilation record from Pusat Studi Bahasa (PSB) Unpatti. There were 702 respondents to the survey which was distributed from November 9th to December 28th 2022. The respondents were TOEFL Prediction test-takers from Unpatti Ambon, PSDKU Aru, PSDKU MBD, and general Public. The result from the data analysis shows that 87.5% of test-taker have some sort of preparation before the test, the most common type of preparation is self-study (85,5%), and the most common length of preparation taken by test-takers is on average 1 week (70,5%). Lastly, overall test score indicated that majority of test takers (71.65%) were in A2 level and 26.64% were in A1 level based on CEFR. This suggested that 89.9% the graduates (test-takers) may be failing when competing in the world of job seeking and scholarship hunting.

Abstract

One of the learning activities impacted by the transmission of the COVID-19 virus was a listening exercise in a university classroom. Regarding that assertion, listening comprehension requires help from learners' English language components and lecturers' aid. The study's objectives were: 1) to describe the influence of synchronous and asynchronous audio in online learning (Synchronous and Asynchronous in English Education Study Program); 2) to describe students' listening comprehension; and 3) to determine the positive and significant influence of synchronous and asynchronous audio in online learning on student listening comprehension. This study used a quantitative technique using Ex-post Facto research as the design. Purposive sampling was used to choose 32 students from the English Education Study Program in 2018 and 2019. A questionnaire was used to collect data, and the students' listening final grades were evaluated using IBM SPSS 20.0. The findings of this study revealed that: 1) Synchronous and Asynchronous at English Education Study Program was in the medium category, as the highest score was 76; 2) Students' Listening Comprehension was in the "A" category, as the mean score was 82; 3) Synchronous and Asynchronous have a favorable and substantial impact on students' listening comprehension, as evidenced by the coefficient determinant value of 0.267 (26.7%). The findings of this study are intended to be valuable to lecturers, students, and other researchers.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the type of directive speech acts uttered by Jokowi in his speech at the 17th G20 Opening. Searle and Cook felicity condition, propositional content on warning, advice, and request are used for the analysis. The data collected from Jokowi’s opening speech to all the guest and attendees. The results revealed that propositional content on warning, advice, and request are the attempt of the speaker for the listeners to do the action. In order, propositional content is addressed to the listeners which are the Leaders concerning what they should do in the future. The speaker also believes that the listeners will meet his requirement in the preparatory condition. In sincerity condition, the speaker expects the speakers to listen to what he said since it will benefit all of them. Moreover, advice, order, and request are counted as the attempt of Jokowi to make others do what he said in essential condition. Whereas, warning is to prevent what could happen in the future. Thus, Jokowi’s speech clearly used directive speech act in informing his opinion.

Abstract

Perilaku Perundungan merupakan suatu fenomena yang cukup meresahkan masyarakat. Hal itu tidak hanya terjadi di lingkungan masyarakat, melainkan terjadi pula pada setiap satuan pendidikan termasuk di SD Inpres Negeri 4 Dobo. Sosialisasi pencegahan dan penaggulangan perilaku dan korban perundungan perlu untuk dilakukan kepada guru-guru di sekolah tersebut. Kegiatan sosialisasi ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kesadaran terhadap dampak perilaku perundungan serta pembentukan tim pencegahan perilaku perundungan di sekolah. Kegiatan ini melibatkan guru agama, guru kelas, dan kepala sekolah. Metode yang digunakan pada kegiatan pengabdian ini yaitu sosialisasi dengan teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan kuesioner yang disebar kepada seluruh peserta kegiatan sosialisasi. Data yang diperoleh, dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Berdasarkan hasil analisis, diketahui bahwa mayoritas guru menghendaki dibentuk layanan khusus penanganan perundungan di sekolah dengan melibatkan orang tua murid, namun mayoritas guru tidak menghendaki pelibatan komite sekolah dalam tim penanganan pencegahan perundungan. Selanjutnya, responden mayoritas mendukung pencegahan dan penanggulangan korban perundungan dan penegakan kode etik atau tata tertib sekolah. Semangat dan motivasi mengikuti seminar atau pelatihan pencegahan dan penangangan perundungan relatif sedang. Fenomena perilaku perundungan di tingkat satuan pendidikan dasar perlu dilakukan pencegahan dan penanganan melalui kerja sama antara pihak sekolah dengan orang tua dengan membentuk tim penanganan dan pencegahan perilaku Perundungan. Peserta kegiatan makin menyadari pentingnya pencegahan dan penanganan kasus perundungan yang terjadi di sekolah.

Abstract

This qualitative case study investigates how unethical AI tool usage contributes to the regression of academic writing skills among 20 English students at PSDKU Aru, Maluku, Indonesia. Data was collected through writing samples, plagiarism reports, interviews, and longitudinal grade tracking over six months. Findings reveal that students engaging in uncritical copy-pasting of AI-generated content (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini) exhibited significant declines in paragraph coherence, argumentative depth, and syntactic complexity. Key regression patterns included fragmented topic sentences, incohesive supporting evidence, and formulaic conclusions. The study highlights ethical and pedagogical implications, advocating for AI literacy integration and scaffolded writing assessments. Recommendations emphasize proactive policy reforms and metacognitive training to mitigate skill atrophy.

Abstract

This community service program investigated the application snowball throwing as an instrument to augment English vocabulary acquisition among fifth-grade learners at SD Kristen 1 Dobo, situated in the Aru Islands. Teaching of English has some challenges, especially in primary school. The students do not speak English as their mother language; therefore, it is quite difficult for them to acquire English fluently particularly in rural areas. The program encompassed 29 participants and extended over three sessions, during which students engaged in cooperative gameplay that integrated written vocabulary, physical activity, and verbal expression. This approach facilitated students' comprehension and retention of vocabulary, provided them with lists of words, and instructed them on the accurate pronunciation of these terms through the use of engaging visuals and thematic content, while also modifying the classroom environment to enhance the learning process. The findings revealed a notable enhancement in vocabulary acquisition, heightened student motivation, and favorable teacher feedback. These results underscore the efficacy of embodied, game-based learning in fostering language development within an Indonesian primary educational context.

Abstract

Anak-anak adalah generasi penerus keluarga, bangsa, dan negara. Perkembangan anak yang baik akan dimulai dari lingkungan keluarga. Jika keluarga memberikan lingkungan yang nyaman dan mendukung perkembangan anak, pertumbuhan dan perkembangan anak akan lebih optimal. Oleh karena itu, pola asuh yang baik diperlukan untuk mendukung perkembangan anak, baik secara fisik maupun mental. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peran pola asuh dalam perkembangan bahasa anak. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik studi pustaka, yaitu dengan mengumpulkan berbagai penelitian atau literatur yang berkaitan dengan pola asuh dan perkembangan bahasa. Analisis data dilakukan dengan mendeskripsikan secara tertulis studi-studi yang telah diperoleh. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa peran pola asuh orang tua sangat penting bagi perkembangan bahasa anak. Orang tua yang memiliki pola asuh demokratis cenderung lebih stabil dan dapat menghindari gangguan mental.
