Abstract

Abstract

Until now, students' behavior in handling waste has not had a broad impact on social life. For this reason, more massive efforts are needed to provide education that has a real impact, namely by creating a digital platform. The purpose of this research is to describe the results of an analysis of the initial needs of elementary school students for the development of digital platforms. Students' needs for the form of display of e-modules in digital platforms that students like and students' views on current waste management. The research method used is survey method. The sample in this study were 397 elementary school students in Padang City. The instrument used is a questionnaire. Data is processed using descriptive statistics. Based on data processing, it was found that the e-module model that was relatively preferred by elementary school students was the e-module which was presented with a composition of lots of writing with few pictures as much as 57%, little writing with lots of pictures as much as 39% and in all written form as much as 4%. When compared to videos, comics and books dominant students prefer in the form of ordinary digital books as much as 43%, in the form of comics 22% and in the form of videos as much as 35%. The behavior of elementary school students in the city of Padang is relatively good in handling waste, more than 63% have disposed of waste in its place. However, segregated waste handling is still low, namely

Abstract

Mathematical proof problems are often considered difficult by students, making them a major challenge in mathematics education. While many studies have been conducted to explore the causes of these difficulties, none have deeply investigated the reasons behind the failure in proof construction. This study aims to explore the causes of students' failure in producing valid mathematical proof constructions through their cognitive structures. The research uses an assimilation and accommodation framework. A qualitative descriptive research method was employed, with data collected through think-aloud protocols performed by 17 students. Each student completed a proof problem alternately at different times, followed by interviews to further explore their thinking structures. Based on the data analysis, three types of cognitive structures were identified that explain the failure in mathematical proof construction: (1) incomplete cognitive structure with schema disconnection, (2) schema mismatch, and (3) immature schema. Based on these findings, it is recommended that lecturers incorporate specific learning  strategies, such as concept mapping activities to reinforce conceptual connections and structured proof validation exercises to address schema incompleteness and immaturity, thereby improving students' cognitive structures. Abstract

The ability Mathematical representation is very important for students to have, because it can facilitate students in solving mathematical problems. This study aims to describe the ability of mathematical representation of class VII students of SMP Negeri 14 Padang. The results showed that 82.7% of students used visual representations, 38% of students used representations of Equation or mathematical expressions and 23.3% of students used representations of words or written texts. The highest indicator of visual representation is to draw geometric figures to clarify the problem and facilitate its solution, while the lowest indicator of the representation of words or written text is to write the steps to solve mathematical problems with words
