Abstract

In the rapidly evolving digital age, self-presentation has become an integral part of human interaction, particularly in the realm of digital romance through modern dating applications. This study analyzes the digital self-presentation strategies of users of Tinder, Bumble, and Coffee Meets Bagel in Jakarta. Using a qualitative descriptive method and Erving Goffman's self-presentation theory, data were collected through profile observations and interviews with 15 informants aged 23 to 33 who have used these apps for over a year. The findings identify several self-presentation strategies used by dating app users. Both male and female users take selfies with various poses to create natural-looking images. For instance, Bumble users use clear facial photos in formal attire to give a professional impression, while informant DA shows a neat and serious appearance in professional settings. Bumble users also use polite and open language with detailed writing styles. Coffee Meets Bagel users, such as informants display photos in formal attire and emphasize emotional intelligence in their profiles. Tinder users’ informants like to highlight their dedication to fitness and use casual language with humor to create a pleasant impression. The study reveals strategies like self-disclosure, authenticity, subtle cues, and the importance of valid self-presentation in digital romance.

Abstract

This study delves into the intricate relationship between Bumble, a feminist-oriented dating app, and the perception of its community, both online and offline. Bumble's unique feature, which empowers women to initiate conversations in heterosexual matches, challenges entrenched gender norms prevailing in conventional dating platforms like Tinder. Beyond the innovative app design, the research employs the symbolic convergence theory to dissect shared fantasy themes, chains, and types within their community, unraveling how these dramatized messages contribute to empathetic communication and foster a sense of community. In addition to scrutinizing user narratives, the study aims to bridge the symbolic convergence observed on Twitter with the tangible experiences of women navigating Bumble's feminist features in the real world. This comprehensive exploration not only sheds light on the symbiotic relationship between online communities and the dynamics of feminist-driven dating apps but also contributes valuable insights to the broader discourse on the impact of technology on societal norms and interpersonal relationships. The research seeks to offer a nuanced perspective that goes beyond the digital realm, encompassing the multifaceted ways in which technology influences and reflects the evolving landscape of gender dynamics in contemporary society. Abstract

In response to the escalating climate crisis in Indonesia, climate change education has become increasingly crucial. The environmental advocacy community Peri Bumi has been actively engaged in environmental education and initiatives. However, these communities face challenges in managing effective learning and producing educational content. Based on these needs, the Bina Nusantara University lecturer team initiated a community service program by developing a Learning Management System (LMS) based on generative artificial intelligence (generative AI) and providing digital content creation training. The results of the evaluation show that LMS Peri Bumi has improved learning accessibility for 121 active users in the first six months. In addition, the training conducted resulted in a significant improvement in the skills of community members with an N-Gain of 85.2%. Overall, the program contributes to creating a community-based education model that is sustainable and can be replicated to other communities of environmentalists.

Abstract

The clustering algorithm used in this study, based on demographic, psychographic, travel preferences, travel behavior, and technology usage patterns, aims to identify Indonesian tourism consumers and classify them into clusters based on their characteristic groups. This study provides a comprehensive analysis of how artificial intelligence (AI) can contribute to enhancing tourism segmentation, offering insights for the hospitality and tourism industries in designing communication strategies tailored to the preferences of tourism consumers in Indonesia. Using survey data from 1,030 Indonesian domestic tourists, clustering techniques were applied to identify their tourism segments. The results are mapped into five clusters of the Indonesian domestic tourist. These profiles reveal clear differences between clusters in planning styles, spending patterns, and digital engagement. By translating these profiles into a conceptual model for tourism communication and empowerment, the study provides actionable strategies for tourism marketers to design more personalized campaigns, strengthen engagement, and align with sustainable tourism goals. This research contributes to the study of segmentation by integrating technology adoption and sustainability values into the profiles of travellers, while providing a systematic marketing communication framework for tourism destinations and organizations to tailor messages and services for diverse groups of tourism consumers.
