Abstract

Abstract

The sustainable management of mangrove ecotourism requires generating additional income for its managers. One potential strategy is batik training using mangrove ecosystem motifs. On September 15, 2024, a batik training session was conducted for tour guides and managers of the Mangrove Cisiu Eco-Education Park, located in Pangkah Kulon Village, Gresik. The event was attended by 10 participants and was part of the Community Partnership Program (PKM) titled "Empowering Mangrove Managers through Eco-tourism Package Programs as Income Generating for the Sustainability of Mangrove Edupark Management on Cisiu Island", funded by DRTPM Kemendikbudristek. The training was led by Ms. Maria Cecilia, owner of Sanggar Lembayung Batik, who has extensive experience in teaching batik to various communities. Participants learned the basic techniques of batik-making, featuring motifs inspired by the mangrove ecosystem, such as Glodong fish, crabs, and mangrove trees. The training included canting techniques, wax application, and dyeing with synthetic batik dyes. In addition to technical skills, participants gained insight into the potential of batik as a creative economic product that can serve as an additional income source for ecotourism managers. This training aims to support the economic sustainability of the Mangrove Edupark Cisiu by developing high-value batik products, thus contributing to the preservation of the mangrove ecosystem through enhanced livelihoods for the local community.

Abstract

Data mining is a crucial process for extracting valuable information from existing data, which can then be used by companies for quick and accurate decision-making. One of the commonly used methods in data mining is the K-Means Clustering method. In this study, the author applied K-Means Clustering in the retail sector to address the challenges faced by PT. Patria Jaya Mandiri. The author designed an application that can cluster heavy equipment spare parts based on sales data, with the aim of helping the company identify which spare parts are most favored by consumers. This clustering is expected to simplify the process of determining optimal spare part stock, ultimately positively impacting the company’s revenue. The results of this study indicate that heavy equipment spare parts can be categorized into three groups: Most Popular, Popular, and Least Popular. Cluster 1 (Most Popular) consists of 3 data points, Cluster 2 (Popular) consists of 39 data points, and Cluster 3 (Least Popular) consists of 8 data points. This clustering result can serve as a guide for PT. Patria Jaya Mandiri in determining the optimal spare part inventory in the future.

Abstract

Stevia rebaudiana, the source of non-caloric natural sweeteners in the form of steviol glycosides, is a plant with a poor germi- nation rate. Therefore, micropropagation is a potential alternative method to propagate the plants in a large number. Light is an important factor for photosynthesis, so changing the intensity, quality, and duration of lighting can affect plant growth. Photo- period, the duration of light within 24hour period, has been known to influence the growth of S. rebaudiana grown in ex vitro conditions. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of various photoperiod (8, 12, and 16 hours) on the growth of S. rebaudiana in vitro. The node segments from ex vitro grown S. rebaudiana plants were cultured on solid MS media supple- mented with 1.13mg/L BA and 0.35 mg/L IAA. The shoots were rooted on solid half-strength MS media containing 0.1 mg/L IAA. For acclimatization, therooted shoots were grown on a mixture of fertile soil, burnt rice husk, cocopeat, and manure. The photoperiod treatment was applied from the beginning to the end of the experiment. Our results showed that the highest shoot length was found under 16 hour photoperiod. On the otherhand, root number and root length were not affected by photoperiod. Additionally, a 16 hour photoperiod increased shoot length (5.9 cm) compared to a 12-hour (3.48 cm) and 8-hour photoperiod (3.08 cm) after 5 weeks of acclimatization. A 16 hour photoperiod also producedhighest total leaf fresh weight (0.2 g). Howev- er, different photoperiods did not significantly affect leaf number and leaf area. In conclusion, 16 hour photoperiod is the best condition for S. rebaudiana micropropagation.
