Abstract

Some psychologists and educationalists have explained various models related to students’ motivation in learning English language. One of them is proposed by (Gardner, 1988) who explained about the socio-educational model. This study reports data from the interview conducted to the English Department students of IKIP Siliwangi of Academic Year 2018/2019 about their motivation in English language learning. In this research, there are three students of English Department as the participants. In addition to the researcher, the instrument of this study is Interview which is applied to the three students based on their language ability levels; namely, high, moderate and low. This study belongs to Qualitative research because there is no statistical data presented. Instead, the data were collected by using structured interview and then, they were transcribed, categorized and interpreted. The findings revealed that there are three factors for the students that makes the students of English Department becomes more motivated in English language learning; namely, the teacher himself, the teaching strategies and games. Keywords: Students’ Perception, English Language, Traditional Classroom

Abstract

The objective of the study is to provide the students treatment and make the students easy in learning process of writing descriptive text, therefore to improve the students writing skills in English by using PWIM strategy. The participants are the 7th grade students of Junior High School at Cimahi in academic year 2019/2020 which consist of 32 students. The study using CAR with two cycles to observe the activities and responses of students in classroom. Result of the study could be seen from the improvement score from pretest to posttest 2 with a minimum score of 75 and maximum score of 85 in posttest 2. Keywords:  Writing, Descriptive Text, PWIM Strategy, CAR

Abstract

This study aimed to find out the use of personal and spatial deixis on the song lyrics of “Sunday Best” by Surfaces, and also to describe the meaning of this song. This study used the qualitative method. The writer used document analysis as the instrument of this study, while the data collection techniques that have been conducted listened to that music, collecting that song lyrics script on the internet, then analyzing the use of personal and spatial deixis on that song. The results of this study showed that personal deixis became the dominant type of spatial deixis. There are 30 data of personal deixis consisting of first, second, and third person deixis. Meanwhile, the writer only found 6 data of spatial deixis. The meaning has been found after the writer listened to this song and analyzed it using personal and spatial deixis. The writer notes that by using personal and spatial deixis it will make easily to catch the reference meaning that include who, where and why the utterance is uttered. Keywords:  Pragmatics, Deixis, Song Lyrics

Abstract

The objective of the study is to analyze the type and/or dominance of deixis; further, to identify deixis in a song’s lyrics entitled “Our Song” composed by Anne Marie. This analysis method, in fact, is to discover features of deixis emerging in the song’s lyrics. In practice, the study performed descriptive qualitative method to project data from deixis model appears in the lyrics. The findings reported, in personal deixis, eighty (80) deictical words distinguished the first person, the second person, and the third person, by pronoun (I, me, my, our, and we), possessive pronouns (you), and pronoun (it), respectively. For spatial deixis and temporal deixis, twenty-nine (29) deictical words were identified in the song’s lyrics of “Our Song” by Anne Marie. The dominant deictical words on spatial deixis of the song’s lyrics were on the radio. The dominant deictical word for temporal deixis of the song’s lyrics was when. 73% of the deictical words discovered in the song’s lyrics was written in personal deixis; thus, indicated that the dominant deictical word was personal deixis.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the predominant deixis and the form of deixis found in the famous band Stars and Rabbit song "Man Upon The Hill". This study uses a qualitative method, data collection using document analysis techniques is done by reading, and writing. This study collected the data by doing the following: First, the researcher listened to the songs, second the researcher searched the internet for scripts for the lyrics of the song, third the researcher selected lyrics to analyze, fourth the researcher marked all the lyrics selected for analysis. After collecting the data from the lyrics script, the researcher analyzes the data are as follows: First, the researcher identifies several phrases that include deictic phrases. Second, the researcher classifies the identified deictic expressions according to their criteria. Third, the researcher analyzes the types of deixis. The results showed that there are three kinds of deixis in the lyrics of the song "Man Upon The Hill" that is person deixis in table 1, spatial deixis in table 2, and discourse deixis in table 3. However, the most common kinds of deixis used in the song "Man Upon the Hill" is a person deixis with 21 data. Compared with spatial deixis which consists of five words, and discourse deixis which consists of two words. So, that's what this song means, that's what the vocals experience.

Abstract

Pengabdian kepada masyarakat dengan tema "Implementasi Deep Learning dalam Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris: Pendekatan Kreatif dan Adaptif Berbasis AI di SMAN 1 Margaasih" telah berhasil dilaksanakan secara efektif. Kegiatan ini meningkatkan literasi digital dan kesadaran etika penggunaan teknologi AI di kalangan guru dan siswa, sekaligus memperkuat kemampuan mereka dalam mengintegrasikan AI sebagai media pembelajaran yang inovatif dan adaptif. Melalui sosialisasi Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris IKIP Siliwangi, program ini juga menumbuhkan motivasi akademik siswa untuk menatap jenjang pendidikan lebih tinggi. Metode pengabdian ini menggunakan pendekatan Participatory Action Research (PAR) dengan sesi pelatihan intensif dan pendampingan aktif. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan adanya peningkatan signifikan dalam keterampilan digital dan penerapan AI dalam pembelajaran. Program ini direkomendasikan untuk diadopsi secara luas dengan penyesuaian konteks lokal sekolah.
