Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh pemaknaan atas makna pidato yang disampaikan oleh setiap presiden yang berpotensi dipengaruhi oleh hal-hal subjektif yang dapat menimbulkan kegaduhan di suatu negara. Salah satu metode ilmiah yang digunakan untuk menemukan makna tersembunyi dari komentar tentang masalah sosial politik, kebijakan, dan gaya kepemimpinan adalah analisis wacana kritis. Dengan menggunakan Analisis Wacana Kritis Van Dijk pada Pidato Pelantikan Presiden Joe Biden, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap kebijakan Amerika Serikat. Analisis tersebut menunjukkan secara ilmiah bahwa Presiden Joe Biden memprioritaskan pemulihan masalah domestik daripada masalah internasional, dengan rasio persentase 70 persen : 30 persen. Persatuan, keamanan dalam negeri, dan keseimbangan terhadap masalah demokrasi adalah masalah pertama yang harus diperbaiki, diikuti dengan masalah internasional. Dalam pidatonya, Joe Biden menggunakan sosiokognitif superstruktur untuk menunjukkan pendekatan humanistik. Selain itu, Presiden Joe Biden lebih sering menggunakan pengulangan dan aliterasi sebagai kiasan untuk menekankan pesannya daripada Barack Obama, dan gaya bahasanya lebih sistematis dan lugas. Kata kunci: Analisis Wacana Kritis, Van Dijk, Joe Biden; Barack Obama; PidatoThe aims of the research is undermined by an absorption of the meaning of speeches delivered by any president who is potentially influenced by subjective things that can trigger a nation's agitation. One of the scientific methods used to find the hidden meaning of comments on social-political issues, policies, and styles of leadership is critical discourse analysis. Using Van Dijk's Critical Wacana Analysis on President Joe Biden's Appointment Speech, this study aims to uncover US policy. The analysis demonstrates scientifically that President Joe Biden prioritizes the recovery of domestic problems over international problems, with a 70 percent to 30 percent ratio. Unity, domestic security, and the balance of issues of democracy are the first issues to be fixed, followed by international issues. In his speech, Joe Biden used superstructured sociocognitive to demonstrate a humanistic approach. Besides, President Joe Biden is more likely to use repetition and aliteration as a pretext to emphasize his message than Barack Obama, and his style of speech is more systematic and coherent. Abstract

 The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in language learning has transformed academic writing, particularly in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) contexts. AI-powered writing tools such as QuillBot offer real-time feedback, automated paraphrasing, and grammatical enhancements, potentially improving students’ writing proficiency. However, limited research explores the specific impact of QuillBot on argumentative essay writing in EFL classrooms. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of QuillBot in enhancing the writing skills of third-semester EFL students at Universitas Darma Persada, Indonesia. Using a quasi-experimental design, 60 students were divided into an experimental group (QuillBot-assisted learning) and a control group (traditional instruction). Pre-test and post-test essay scores were analyzed using SPSS 27.0 to assess improvements in structure, coherence, and grammar. The findings revealed that students using QuillBot showed significantly higher improvements in writing proficiency compared to those in the control group. The experimental group demonstrated enhanced argumentation, coherence, and grammatical accuracy, indicating that AI-assisted tools can be effective in fostering writing development. The study concludes that QuillBot is a valuable supplementary tool for EFL writing instruction, providing instant feedback and reducing students’ dependency on traditional teacher-led corrections. Educators are encouraged to integrate AI writing assistants into teaching methodologies to optimize learning outcomes. Future research should explore the long-term effects of AI-assisted writing on different writing genres and across diverse educational contexts.

Abstract

Fishing vessels used to catch resources from the sea has to pass some of the regulations from International Maritime Organization for sea-worthiness of the vessel especially about stability, resistance to acquire the highest velocity, and the vessel’s motion. This research discusses the effect of the vessel’s dimension and the hull shape by using the stability standard from IMO.The result shows that the ratio of the B/T which meets the stability criteria is 2.50 with the ratio of KG/H of the vessel is 0.65, with the assumption that the KG and H of the vessel are more than 0.70. Whereas if the resistance ratio B/T is big, the resistance for the vessel will be relatively smaller. In terms of the vessel motion, a vessel with a V-type hull will better than a U-type hull in seakeeping.

Abstract

The integration of corpus-based analysis with Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) offers a promising pedagogical framework to enhance online language proficiency development. Against the backdrop of increasing globalization and the need for effective language and content instruction, this study investigates the potential of merging these two methodologies to address gaps in traditional language education. The objective is to explore how corpus-based tools can enhance CLIL curricula by providing authentic, subject-specific language inputs and fostering critical thinking, cultural awareness, and learner autonomy. A mixed-methods approach was adopted, combining quantitative and qualitative methods. Quantitative analysis involved pre-tests and post-tests of vocabulary acquisition, grammar accuracy, and subject-specific terminology comprehension for experimental and control groups. The experimental group utilized corpus-based CLIL tools, while the control group followed traditional CLIL methods. Qualitative data were gathered through surveys, interviews, and case studies to capture learner and educator experiences, engagement, and usability of the proposed approach. Findings revealed that the experimental group demonstrated significantly greater improvements in language proficiency, with 80%-100% gains across metrics compared to 30%-50% gains in the control group.
