Abstract

This paper departs from the discourse of the paradigm of social development in third world countries. The first discourse reviews the critics of the broad state in social development. It supports the non-state actors to take a part in development through corporate social responsibility (CSR). The second discourse departs from economic development which weakens the capability of the individual in achieving development itself. The concept of the capability approach in human development emerged as a solution to create inclusive welfare. This paper itself raises these two things in one discussion related to the role of CSR in relation to the development of human capabilities. Taking an analysis of the Program Desa Mandiri Energi by PJB UP Paiton, the study examines the role of CSR activities in supporting community capabilities. This paper argues that the existence of CSR provides a strong contribution to strengthening the capabilities of the community that has developed from the past. However, in the subsequent findings, there are several aspects of CSR programs that still several actions to be developed and improved human capabilities.

Abstract

Community empowerment in the urban context has become a public discourse in the urban development perspective. Participation, inclusiveness, and collaboration encourage community empowerment in achieving equal urban welfare. This paper focuses on Kelompok Usaha Bersama or Joint Business Group (KUBE) community empowerment program, an initiative of the central government in collaboration with local stakeholders. The implementation of the KUBE program, which was specifically assigned, was examined in the Yogyakarta city area. By using the collective capability approach as a research lens, two findings were raised. First, the implementation of KUBE in Yogyakarta is an illustration of community empowerment policies in translating collective capabilities. Second, in realizing collective capability, an agency is required in the form of collective awareness and strong leadership.

Abstract

Kekayaan tradisi dan budaya pada masyarakat jawa yang terkenal akan nilai-nilai yang mendalam, tidak dapat dipungkiri kini telah mengalami transformasi seiring dengan masuknya modernisasi yang merubah dinamika sosial mereka. Masalah ini terjadi pada tradisi punjungan di Kabupaten Purworejo, Jawa Tengah. Tradisi punjungan yang dilakukan dari generasi ke generasi dan memberikan simbol keluhuran bagi kehidupan sosial masyarakat tidak dapat dipungkiri harus hidup berdampingan pula dengan modernisasi zaman. Riset ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi dan menganalisis pemahaman, praktik, dan sensitivitas sosial masyarakat Purworejo terhadap tradisi punjungan dengan membandingkan respon dari masyarakat rural dan urban. Metode riset yang digunakan adalah kualitatif naratif. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara, observasi, dan studi literatur, serta analisis data dilakukan secara tematik deduktif dengan membuat tema-tema utama sebagai acuan dalam proses olah data, interpretasi, hingga penarikan kesimpulan. Di akhir tulisan ini, memberikan kesimpulan berupa sensitivitas sosial masyarakat rural dan urban terhadap tradisi punjungan dalam upaya melestarikan tradisi punjungan di Kabupaten Purworejo.
