Abstract

QS. al-An'ām [6]:108 contains the prohibition of insulting and degrading the worship of other religions. The purpose of this prohibition is to prevent the polytheists from insulting Allah in return for the insults made by the Muslims. The content of this verse suggests several principles of tolerance that need to be known and practiced by a plural society. This paper aimed to examine the verse in the framework of thematic interpretation and its correlation with the principles of tolerance in the Indonesian context. This research is a library research using thematic interpretation method. The focus of the theme in this study was the principle of tolerance implied in QS. al-An'ām [6]:108 which is then associated with the Indonesian context. The author can conclude three principles of tolerance based on this verse; First, not to defame the worship of other religions. Second, recognizing the existence of other religions. Third, preaching with good words. In the context of Indonesia, which consists of a plural society, these three principles are very important to maintain the harmony of religious life in the midst of the onslaught of various intolerant individuals and groups.

Abstract

This study examines the political interpretation in M. Quraish Shihab's Tafsir Al-Misbah, using a library research approach and qualitative content analysis, to explore how the basic principles of state life, such as power, deliberation, and justice, are interpreted from an Islamic perspective. The novelty of this study lies in the effort to contextualize Quraish Shihab's thoughts within the landscape of modern Indonesian statehood and position the interpretation as a source of moderate and inclusive Islamic political values. Beyond analyzing the text, this study also reconstructs the relevance of the interpretation's values to the challenges of democracy, pluralism, and law enforcement in the contemporary era. The findings show that Quraish Shihab offers an Islamic narrative emphasizing the ethics of power, substantive justice, and openness to diversity as basic principles of national life. This study is expected to be an important reference for integrating Islamic values into national political discourse. For further development, a comparative study with other contemporary interpretations or an interdisciplinary approach involving political science and sociology is recommended to expand the usefulness of this research result.

Abstract

Al-Qur’an sebagai kitab suci bagi umat Islam memberikan berbagai penjelasan tentang ajaran ajaran Islam, yang diantaranya adalah ajaran tentang jihad. Sedangkan diantara ayat al-Qur’an yang membahas tentang jihad adalah QS. Al-Taubah Ayat 122. Haji Abdul Malik Karim Amrullah atau yang biasa dikenal dengan sebutan buya Hamka merupakan salah satu tokoh mufassir nasional yang pernah menulis Tafsir Al-Azhar. Di dalam kitab ini, Hamka menjelaskan tentang klasifikasi jihad berdasarkan ayat ini. Beliau berpendapat bahwa ayat ini mengisyaratkan tentang pembagian tugas dalam berjihad, ada yang berbondong – bondong menuju garis depan untuk menghalang musuh, ada pula yang menjaga garis belakang, garis benteng ilmu pengetahuan. Selain itu, jihad di garis depan dan belakang memiluku kedudukan yang sama berdasarkan dua hadis yang beliau jelaskan dalam kitab tafsirnya. Penelitian ini merupakan library research (kajian pustaka) yang fokus kajian utamanya adalah tema tentang jihad. Penelitian ini diharapkan mampu menjadi khazanah keilmuan tentang penafsiran mufassir nasional dan sebagai sumber rujukan bagi para cendekiawan muslim, khususnya yang ada di Indonesia.

Abstract

This article analyzes the process of knowledge transformation in Qur’an Surah Al-Baqarah (2):260 by positioning birds as an epistemic medium in faith-based learning. The study aims to explain how revelation, empirical observation, and direct experience interact in enhancing the quality of Prophet Ibrahim’s (peace be upon him) conviction. The research employs a thematic (mawḍū‘ī) tafsir method with a qualitative approach, utilizing linguistic analysis of the verse, comparative examination of classical and contemporary Qur’anic exegesis, and the framework of Islamic epistemology. The findings indicate that the event described in this verse represents stages of knowledge transformation from ‘ilm al-yaqīn to ‘ayn al-yaqīn, culminating in ḥaqq al-yaqīn through an empirical demonstration directly commanded by Allah. Birds function as concrete media that enable experiential validation of the truth of revelation. These findings affirm that the Qur’an does not merely present theological doctrine but also offers an experiential learning model that is highly relevant to the development of epistemology and educational methodology in contemporary Islamic education. This study underscores the importance of an empirical approach in faith education that maintains a balance between rationality and spirituality.
