Abstract

This article aims to reveal why the Qur'an was revealed in Arabia, not in Java or other regions. Some people claim that if the prophet Muhammad descended in Java, the Qur'an would also be in Javanese. The argument, at first glance, has some truth. However, God chose the Arabian Peninsula, where the last revelation was revealed, and the language used to immortalize His revelation was not without reason. This qualitative-library research uses data from books, journals or other written references. God chose Arabia because of several factors: First, geographically, the Arab region was in a strategic position at the midpoint between the Persian and Roman powers and the middle lane, which became the meeting point for caravans from the West, East, South and North. The Kaaba, the center of worship and pilgrimage, supports this strategic location. In addition, another Zam-zam well can still be used for the drinking needs of residents and migrants from ancient times. Secondly, in terms of language selection, Arabic was chosen because it has a natural style that is not possessed by any other language. In addition to language, the diction chosen by the Qur'an is very difficult to match because it provides a pleasing rhythm to the ear. At the end of the verse, the average uses rhyme and rhyme in poetry or rhyme. Some of these advantages are not owned by the language in any book. Thus it is not surprising that the Qur'an is easy to memorize because it has a rhyme like a song. In addition, Arabic has the most vocabulary, so it 'does not need' other languages to explain its language. Third, the translation of the Qur'an cannot be called the Qur'an because the translation will not be able to absorb 100% of the original language's meaning. In addition, the translation of the Qur'an eliminates the miraculous side of the Qur'an itself, including language, diction, rhyme and sentence structure.

Abstract

Birds are the animals most frequently mentioned in the Qur’an. However, the birds in the Qur’an have never been studied using a comprehensive scientific approach. This research is expected to be able to add insight and knowledge to Indonesian scholars about the integration of the theme of birds in the Qur’an and science. This study uses a thematic method based on library research by tracing verses about birds in the Qur’an. These verses are then studied using the method of scientific exegesis in which the sources are contemporary commentary books. Then these verses can be integrated with science. Based on the research conducted by the author, the characteristics of birds in the Qur’an can be detailed as follows: First; movement of birds in the air. For thousands of years before, the Qur’an has explained the patterns of bird movement that have been revealed by science today. Second; the behavior of crows and their benefits to humans. Crows have intelligence that is beneficial to human life. Third; nutritional content in salwa birds. The nutritional value of salwa birds can nourish the human body. Fourth; the behavior of the birds bombarding Abraha’s troops. Based on the opinion of contemporary scholars, these birds are interpreted as small organisms that cause various diseases. This organism then develops into a lethal weapon of mass murder, which is popularly known as bioterrorism.

The purpose of the study is to explain Quentin’s personality before meeting Margo and how it is after meeting Margo in John Green’s Paper Towns. The main character, Quentin, changes from being static person in life such as having no ambitions, being a coward person, and disciplined one before meeting Margo to being a dynamic person such being an ambitious person, being a brave person, and being an insubordinate one after meeting Margo. The kind of change in life draws the researcher’s interest to conduct the analysis in this article since human’s thought develops from time to time whose developments could do the person either harm or good. However, this personality change does the main character good. Thus, two of the eights determinant give a significant change of life of the main character, therefore, such determinants are worth studying very deeply as such knowledge is very necessary to make people able to manage available determinants they encounter in their daily life. Finally, the finding is to develop the theory of literature in application, namely, the personality development by Hurlock.

Abstract

The development of Qur’anic exegesis in Sumatra illustrates a continuous intellectual trajectory linking classical, transitional, and modern phases of Islamic scholarship. This study examines three major exegetes—Abdurrauf al-Sinkili, Haji Abdul Karim Amrullah (HAKA), and Haji Abdul Malik Karim Amrullah (HAMKA)—by exploring their biographical contexts, socio-historical settings, and distinctive interpretive features. Abdurrauf, through Tafsir Tarjuman al-Mustafid (17th-century Aceh), introduced an ijmālī and Sufi-oriented approach to make the Qur’an accessible to Malay audiences. HAKA’s Tafsir al-Burhan reflects early 20th-century Minangkabau reformism, employing a taḥlīlī method emphasizing reason and social engagement. Meanwhile, HAMKA’s Tafsir al-Azhar represents a modern, comprehensive synthesis that integrates transmitted and rational interpretations while addressing contemporary socio-political realities. Read through Talal Asad’s concept of Islam as a discursive tradition and John Bowen’s Muslims through Discourse, these tafsir works reveal not only textual interpretation but also ongoing negotiations of authority, identity, and social ethics. The continuity of Sumatra’s tafsir tradition thus reflects a discursive evolution, demonstrating how local scholars reinterpret the Qur’an in response to shifting historical and political contexts. The novelty of this study lies in positioning Nusantara tafsir as a dynamic dialogical model that contributes to contemporary Muslim societies by bridging classical heritage, local culture, and modern intellectual demands.

Abstract

This study is about the fight for love in three fictions, two of which belongs to short stories, in Thomas Hardy’s the Well-Beloved, John Collier’s the Chaser, and Jesse Stuart’s Love. Using the concept of romance quoted by Shumway supported by close reading as well as descriptive and dramatic approach, the study shows that the three characters in three different fictions fight for love for different importance; the former for the holy matrimony, the latter for himself, and the last for others. Whilst, the similarities go to the valuable thing they sacrifice, on one hand. On the other hand, the difference goes to sacrificing the whole life time, his valuable love, and their life, respectively. Besides, the study gives a lesson that love can be sacrificed for others and ourselves.

Abstract

The objectives of this study are to investigate how knowledge of Nahwu (Arabic syntax) and Sharf (Arabic morphology) helps participants of the Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur'an (MTQ) in the Indonesian Language Qur'anic Tafsir category strengthen their interpretation skills, as well as to identify the challenges participants face in mastering these two sciences for interpreting the Qur'an. This study takes a qualitative method, with 10 MTQ participants in the Indonesian Language Qur'anic Tafsir category and one of their trainers serving as a supportive informant. The data was gathered by observation, questionnaires, and in-depth interviews, then analyzed using interpretation techniques, thematic categorization, and data reduction. The results of the study reveal that the knowledge of Nahwu and Sharf considerably helps participants understand the structure of Qur'anic verses and interpret them more precisely, thereby improving their exegetical skills. However, while mastering the knowledge of Nahwu and Sharf, the participants face several problems, which undoubtedly produce diversity in their interpretation skills. These problems include the complexities of Nahwu and Sharf laws, a lack of preparation time, training methods, limited references, and distinctions in educational background and environment. The findings of this study can be used as a resource for MTQ participants in the Indonesian Language Qur'anic Tafsir category to improve their Qur'anic exegesis skills.
