Abstract

In recent years, the Islamic financial sector has become one of the most vital sectors in the Islamic economic system in Indonesia. Therefore, more attention needs to be paid to the measurement of Islamic financial inclusion and its and policy making, especially in facing the digitalization of economy, because the digitalization can be a momentum that provides opportunities as well as threats to Islamic finance. This study attempts to measure Islamic financial inclusion at the provincial level in Indonesia through the dimensions of accessibility, availability and utilization and analyzes the impact of digitalization on Islamic financial inclusion. Measurements are made using the Sarma Index, while the analysis of the impact of digitalization on Islamic financial inclusion employs the fixed effect model on the balanced panel data. The measurement results show that developed provinces tend to have higher levels of Islamic financial inclusion compared to developing provinces. Furthermore, provinces with a Muslim majority have a higher level of Islamic financial inclusion compared to provinces with a Muslim minority populations. In the panel data analysis, it was found that internet penetration has a negative and significant effect on Islamic financial inclusion, which shows that the majority of people in Indonesia still use the internet to access entertainment content and that internet use has not been optimized to access financial services. Nevertheless, the presence of the Islamic fintech platforms has a significant positive effect on Islamic financial inclusion in Indonesia. The variable level of cell phone usage has no significant effect on the level of Islamic financial inclusion and the average length of schooling has a significant negative effect on Islamic financial inclusion.

Abstract

The development of Islamic insurance undergoes a noticeable growth of investment. As Islamic insurance companies have a better ability to manage investments, it is predictable that the companies will be able to better grow assets. The objective of this study is to analyze the factors that influence the growth of Islamic insurance investment in Indonesia. This study used an Ordinary Least Square (OLS) method along with the monthly timeline data from January 2014 until October 2016. The results of this study show that a variable yield of mudharabah and an industrial production index enhance a positive impact on the Islamic insurance investment growth. While the inflation, BI rate, and oil price variables negatively affect the growth of Islamic insurance investment.

Abstract

Investment-based crowdfunding can serve as an alternative financing tool for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia. The development of these services can also boost the progress of halal industry because both have integrated relationships. However, not all funding campaigns for crowdfunding services are successful. This study aims to analyze the development of Islamic crowdfunding business in Indonesia and factors affecting the success of funding campaigns in these services. Primary data obtained through interviews and literature review while secondary data is collected from 39 funding campaigns in 4 Islamic crowdfunding online services. Using a quantitative approach, it finds that funding target, campaign duration, payback periods and rate of return have positive effects on campaign success, while a minimum amount of investment has a negative effect. Finally, SWOT analysis was conducted to find out the challenges and opportunities for the halal industry in utilizing such Islamic crowdfunding service. Abstrak:Crowdfunding berbasis investasi dapat menjadi sarana pembiayaan alternatif bagi UMKM di Indonesia. Berkembangnya layanan tersebut turut mendorong kemajuan industri halal karena keduanya memiliki hubungan yang terintegrasi. Namun, tidak semua kampanye pendanaan pada layanan crowdfunding berhasil. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis perkembangan usaha crowdfunding syariah dan faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi keberhasilan pendanaan pada layanan tersebut. Data primer diperoleh melalui metode wawancara dan kaji literatur sedangkan data sekunder diperoleh melalui 39 kampanye pendanaan pada 4 situs crowdfunding syariah. Target pendanaan, durasi kampanye, jangka waktu pengembalian dan tingkat bagi hasil memiliki pengaruh positif terhadap keberhasilan kampanye, sementara jumlah investasi minimal memiliki pengaruh negatif. Setelah melakukan penelitian dengan pendekatan kualitatif dan kuantitatif, analisis SWOT dilakukan untuk mengetahui tantangan dan peluang bagi industri halal dalam memanfaatkan layanan crowdfunding.
