Abstract

Currently, Information and communication technology, especially internet system, have been developing very rapidly. Such developments have certainly positive and negative impacts. In the development of the digital age today, phenomenon of radicalism is increasingly established in Indonesia and the world. There have been many studies on this. Abstract

In the contemporary digital landscape, social media has evolved into a pervasive phenomenon, serving as a medium for communication and interaction in the virtual realm, liberated from the confines of space and time—epitomized by the omnipresent live streaming feature. TikTok, distinguished by its live streaming functionality, emerges as the paramount social media platform, attracting users ranging from influencers to artists. Central to social media interaction is the adept representation of communicative intentions. This research probes the intricacies of TikTok's live streaming feature as a symbolic interaction medium between influencers and their audience. Employing a qualitative descriptive methodology, the researcher elucidates insights derived from in-depth interviews and observations. The study is anchored in Herbert Mead's symbolic interactionism, with a specific focus on the dimensions of mind, self, and society. Findings spotlight that influencers, within the realm of the mind concept, prioritize augmenting their follower count, with some anticipating financial contributions from the audience to address familial needs. Within the self-concept domain, a subset of influencers directs attention to leveraging symbolic features of live streaming to express their self-concept. Symbols such as likes, comments, shares, and viewers are regarded as potent conveyors of messages pertaining to identity and emotions, particularly within the micro-influencer domain. Concurrently, the audience tends to emulate the self-concept of the influencers they follow. In the societal context, unanimity prevails among informants regarding the imperative adherence to collectively endorsed rules and norms, notably the regulatory policies instituted by TikTok for live streaming.

Abstract

There has been no specific study on the preaching messages from former terrorists. This paper aims to describe the preaching messages in the Facebook accounts of former terrorists. This research method uses qualitative content analysis on text data from Facebook. The data were collected through observation and documentation of status message uploads on two Facebook accounts belonging to former terrorists and supported by related literature studies. The two Facebook accounts belonging to former terrorists generally contain preaching messages with general themes, deradicalization, and counter-radicalization. This paper shows that the preaching messages delivered by former terrorists have distinctive material that is different from other preachers. The delivery of preaching messages by former terrorists through social media platforms can have a positive impact on countering terrorism and promoting peaceful Islam.

Abstract

This study focused to investigate how the Gen Z in Surabaya receives the representation of Gen Z characteristics that are visualized in the Gojek advertisement "SOLUSI MASALAH OVERTHINKING PILIH MAKANAN, ADA DI VIDEO INI!". The advertisement attempts to portray Gen Z's characteristics, such as overthinking, commitment issues in relationships, job-hopping, and the tendency to believe in or use horoscope predictions. Previous literature suggests that Gen Z tends to exhibit these characteristics, which motivated the researcher to investigate how the Surabaya Gen Z population responds to this advertisement's portrayal of their traits. This study uses a qualitative descriptive research method with Stuart Hall encoding-decoding theory to analyze the reception. The informants consist of 11 Gen Z individuals with various backgrounds from Surabaya city. The research data collection techniques include in-depth interviews, observations, and literature reviews. The study results indicate that the informants have different responses due to their varying backgrounds. Four informants, 1, 3, 8, and 10, included in the dominant-hegemonic position, while the other seven, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, and 11, are in the negotiation position. The researcher did not identify any informants in the opposition position. Keywords: Reception Analysis, Gen Z Characteristics, and Advertisement

Abstract

The research "Framing Online Media Coverage by Detik.com and Tempo.co on the Nusantara Capital Project during the First 100 Days of the Prabowo-Gibran Administration" aims to understand how Detik.com and Tempo.co frame news about the Nusantara Capital Project during the first 100 days of the Prabowo-Gibran administration, published from October 20, 2024, to January 28, 2025. This research is a qualitative descriptive study using Robert N. Entman's framing model, which has four analytical devices: defining the problem, determining the cause of the problem, making a moral judgment, and recommending a solution. The data sources come from three news articles published by Detik.com and three news articles published by Tempo.co. The research results show that the online media Detik.com and Tempo.co frame the sustainability of the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) development project from different perspectives. Detik.com emphasizes the sustainability of the IKN project as a priority for the Prabowo-Gibran administration. Tempo.co highlights the need for a reevaluation of the IKN project by the new administration.

Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas representasi motherhood dalam video klip Nina oleh band .Feast menggunakan pendekatan semiotika John Fiske. Video klip tersebut menampilkan kisah seorang ibu bekerja yang menghadapi tekanan sosial, emosional, dan profesional, namun tetap menunjukkan kasih sayang dan dedikasi terhadap anak. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengungkap bagaimana motherhood direpresentasikan secara visual dan ideologis dalam video musik sebagai bentuk komunikasi massa. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode analisis semiotika Fiske yang terbagi menjadi tiga level: realitas (elemen visual yang tampak), representasi (teknik sinematik dan struktur naratif), dan ideologi (nilai-nilai sosial yang terkandung). Data diperoleh melalui observasi mendalam terhadap delapan adegan kunci dalam video klip. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa video klip Nina menyajikan representasi motherhood yang realistis dan kompleks. Ibu digambarkan sebagai sosok yang lelah secara fisik dan mental karena harus menjalani peran ganda, namun tetap menunjukkan kekuatan emosional dan cinta yang besar terhadap anak. Selain itu, video ini juga menyampaikan ideologi keibuan yang mencakup pengorbanan, keteguhan hati, komunikasi terbuka, dan solidaritas antargenerasi. Representasi ini memberi pandangan alternatif terhadap citra ibu ideal yang sering diglorifikasi media, dengan menampilkan sisi manusiawi dan emosional seorang ibu. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memperkaya wacana gender dan media dalam konteks representasi perempuan dan peran keibuan.

Abstract

In political campaigns, rhetoric plays an important role to attract public attention. The Anies-Muhaimin candidate pair utilised the Youtube social media platform to campaign and discuss with the people through the "DESAK ANIES" and "SLEPET, IMIN" programmes, which aimed to deliver political messages and increase popularity. The programmes include interviews, panel discussions and vlogs. This research uses qualitative methods to understand the dynamics of their political campaigns. The research revealed that the rhetoric of the Anies-Muhaimin pair had a significant impact on public acceptance during the 2024 election campaign. The combination of ethos, logos, and pathos used in their speeches succeeded in creating a space of acceptance and trust that the constitutional process had been completed with the results of the final Constitutional Court decision. The ethos rhetorical technique was also used by Anies to recognise Prabowo's credibility as president-elect. As a result, Anies-Muhaimin's rhetoric was able to create a fair and peaceful democratic atmosphere, and restore the divisions that occurred during the election process, making the community back in harmony and order during the election

Abstract

This study aims to analyze how online media Tempo.co and RMOL.id framed news related to Gibran Rakabuming's gimics in the vice presidential candidate debate in January 2024. Using qualitative research methods and Robert N. Entman's framing analysis approach, this research explores the different perspectives of the two media in presenting reality. The results showed that Tempo.co framed Gibran's gimik as impolite and unnecessary, emphasizing the negative aspects and showing the impropriety of Gibran's behavior. In contrast, RMOL.id viewed the gimik as a brave act that reflected the expression and courage of young people. The differences in the reporting of the two media reflect the construction of reality influenced by each media's preferences and perspectives. This research emphasizes that news is not a pure reflection of reality, but rather a construction that depends on the media's point of view. The findings underscore how political events can be framed differently, influencing public perception and political opinion.
